2023 NHL Entry Draft

I agree that goalies can be the BPA at a certain point.....it is just very rarely the case in the 1st round. And like I said, why not draft skaters who have a much earlier and larger impact and just sign the goalies from the teams who were silly enough to draft them when they finally become valuable in their FA years.

Well we are seeing more and more that the teams that have them, will pay them a lot of money to keep them. We certainly don't want to find ourselves in a situation where we have no choice but to pay guys like Kuemper and Campbell UFA money to be mediocre.

I understand what you are saying but our prospect pool is stocked and there's not really much on the G front. Dobes and Dichow have both stepped back this year. Primeau hasn't taken a step this year either. With the amount of picks we have now and will acquire between now and the draft, we have ample opportunity to take a goalie when they are the identified BPA on our list or even reach a little bit on one and not worry about it.

With Ratzlaff, Augustine and possibly Clara on the tier below

I have to watch Clara.. Ratzlaff and Augustine are fine but they look like back-up goalie potential to me. They get square, they read the play and they make what is required of them but I don't find either have an athletic or dynamic quality about them that could make them a true #1,

Fantilli over Carlsson is a no brainer at this point. So is Fantilli over Michkov.

Carlsson is firmly #4 IMO, and I'm starting to think he could drop if a team likes Will Smith more.

Carlsson had a great start but his season is hardly historic as some hoped it would be, 2 goals in 22 games.

He also has 13 points in 22 games as a 17 years old in the SHL… and showing insane skills even if he doesn’t get a point every game. I guarantee you, no scouts would take Will Smith before Carlsson. Even if i like Smith, not the same tier of talent.

I really hope you guys don't think Suzuki is a 1c.. He's not.

Slaf is more of a 1c than Suzuki is. Slaf can distribute, hold the puck along the wall, drive the net, cut the middle, back check, take the body in all the O and D and he's only 18.

@NotProkofievian

2nd game watching your guy, no pt but showed some great flashes. Not a speedster and not the biggest guy, but great puckhandling skills and offensive instincts, works the boards rather well and seems to compete hard enough. I liked him tonight, kind of reminds me a bit of Claude Giroux in style.

0 pts = total bust.

But seriously though he's slowly grown on me. During the summer camp I thought ''there's cristall yet again creating something.'' He's just deadly.

You watched 2 games and we lost 2 games, maybe rockets fans should forbid you to watch more games.
Just joking😂

This is the best release I have ever seen. It is insane.

Honestly, its a fireable offense that HuGo arent Buffalo'ing it for Mcdavid. Even a 25% chance at this is probably one of the best stanley cup odds you can have.

You'd have to trade Suzuki for us to even have a shot at being a bottom 5 team. Would you want that to happen? I think we'll still miss the playoffs and gather more picks at the deadline. I'm sad that we're missing out of the Bedard sweepstakes, but there are other ways to build a SC contender without having a talent like his on your team.

Nah I don't think so at all. That first line isn't winning us games if we are just replacing the 2nd line with AHLer. That 2nd line ain't that bad, that's why we are a 450-500 team.

Sorry, what do you mean by this? When/if we trade Monahan and ice a very bad 2nd line?

edit: I meant that in order to ''Buffalo'' it we'd have to trade Suzuki, if we were to be in full-blown tank mode.

False dillema.

Suzuki and Caufield are great and so is Guhle. They can't haul us up if the team is blown up. Mcdavid couldn't even bring the Oilers to 500 himself as a rookie, its ridiculous to think Suzuki and Caufield are too good.

It shouldn't really matter what "other ways" we have. Currently this is the best ticket to a cup and a bubble team this year does not change anything.

Suzuki and Caufield will be fine with one more losing year, 2021-2022 didnt change anything in their progression.

I didn't mean to say Suzuki and Caufield can single-handedly shoulder the load and carry us to the playoffs, but that the team as it's currently built is too good to be like Buffalo circa 2015, and it would take us trading Suzuki and/or Caufield to be as bad as they were. But yeah I'm all for trading all the older players who have value : Monahan, Anderson, Edmundson, etc. We could definitely finish bottom 10 if we do that, perhaps even lower.

The whole first line doesn't have to be traded at all in order to tank this team. Suzuki-Caufield-Dach can't win games on their own if others lines are allowing more goals/contributing less.

Trade Edmunson, Savard, Monahan, Anderson - and watch us be a 200 team (it's coming in January, get ready).

I fully expect 1 or even 2 sales trades in January and then more at the deadline. We'll go from 500 to 400 (at best) in Jan, and then 300 at best post-deadline / while picking in the top 5 for sure.

Like that game vs. Calgary, we had no business winning it - Allen stole it. This team is hanging by a thread around 500. I think this is more a 425-450 overplaying a bit right now.

Yea and both tasted the cup run. They know what is like to play in the playoff, go far, etc. I don't think they will get discourage with 2-3 seasons of tanking. It's not like the Oilers with Hall, RHN, Yakupov, etc. None of those guys got the long playoff experience early in their career, and seem to get demotivated with always losing.

I hope so, I think we'll still probably be better than Arizona and Anaheim. They're ludicrously bad.
