2023 NHL Entry Draft

I hope so, I think we'll still probably be better than Arizona and Anaheim. They're ludicrously bad.

I don't really care to finish last, we can then let the lottery play out, we'll get a fantastic player in the top 6, and maybe 2 more 1st rounders.

We have a first line.
Slafkovski is the beginning of another good offensive line, we'll get another piece of that this year.

On D, Guhle / Harris look like important pieces. We have a lot of prospects coming making me think the D is already pretty much rebuilt even without drafting a star. And hell if Cam Allen is there at 15 with Florida's pick...

We need a high-end G prospect.
We need a high-end C prospect.

Then we'll need time and putting the supporting pieces together.
We'll add a lot more talent in the 2024 draft with potentially 3 1st rounders again.

I mean everyone is relying on a lottery win. Last just has best odds and a guaranteed top 3 pick, which in this draft is getting a team a Franchise player.

Anaheim, Chicago (finally gotten their wish of a bottom 2 finish - they're 31st), Arizona & CBJ are definitely bottom 4. I don't see us catching them unless we start trading people, and getting a lot of key injuries again.

For sure. That is precisely why I like management's vision for this season. Monahan's value has skyrocketed and we're still playing around .500. We'll be in a solid spot come lottery time without deliberately tanking à la Sabres.

Habs are showing interest in forward Maxime Pellerin

We know that they like to draft an overage from the Q in the 7th round
I moved this to the draft thread since he can't be signed as a undrafted FA yet. Do you think it's good to take a shot on him in the 7th round? Simoneau has impressed the hell out of me so far but of course the skating and lack of size is a concern but he's been great so far. Seems like it could be a good plan to find these undersized older players and hope they at worst help your AHL club in time.

I'm biased since he's in my family, but yes he's worth a shot. He's a big kid not like Simoneau/RHP/Tourigny with a great shoot, hands and great character kid. Win most of his puck battle and he can be used in PK. Great kid outside the rink that live for hockey and make every sacrifice that be successful. He was at the Blues rookie camp this summer (he had an invitation to the Habs rookie camp too)

I need to say though that I would prefer him to be drafted elsewhere where the prospect pool is not as stack so he can have better shot at the NHL

Alexandre Alain and Joel Teasdale are probably the best comparable for prospect we had in MTL

Didn't watch the game, but Sudbury Wolves destroyed Niagara Ice Dogs 13-2, and Quentin Musty put up 7 pts: 1g, 6a. He now has 9g & 25a for 34 pts.

I need to watch him more. I like players who can playmake from the wing position.

I really like him. I've saw him 3 times this year and 3 times last year in person. Beyond his offensive skills he also has a mean streak. I think he's a great target for second round.

Saw where there will be 40 NHL scouts at the U-20 WJC's Div IA. Sounds like Oscar Fisker Molgaard from Denmark will be one of the ones most scouts will be there to see.

To me, Musty is almost a ND.

Theres a lack of IQ Im pretty sure. He always leaves me wanting more, kinda like Anderson. He has a lot, if not all the physical tool a player would want though. He can do it all in the offensive zone, heck, on the ice if you will.

I also didnt like his demeanor on the ice, seems like hes whiney/entitled.

Hes kind of like Lambert I guess? Could have him top 10, could have him outside.

I've only watched him twice this year. He was pretty invisible one game, and looked pretty good in the 2nd. I think he is more skilled than Andy, especially on the playmaking side.

Oh he is, 100%.

He just leaves you wanting more.
I've heard from some people in Sudbury he's looked better since the coaching change. I'm going to catch some games in the new year. Hopefully he can build on consistency.

I agree though, so toolsy but maybe the brain is the problem. Still didn't seem like the IQ was at the Hlinka from what I remember. Also I never got the impression he was whiney in the 6 games I watched, he was chirping, in people's faces, played with grit.

He has more SHL goals than Leo Carlsson in 6 less games

Wonder if we stay in a Similar spot to where we are currently if we’d target Dragicevic 🤔
