Hindsight will always be 20/20 but I am not happy with what has happened over the last two days. This is my dream scenario;

Not trade for Newhook. I understand that HuGo is expediting the rebuild and I am fine by it but I’d rather naturally build the team.

Trade #5 to Philly for #7 and #22. They obviously wanted Michkov.

7 - Reinbacher / Leonard
22 - Perreault
31 - Cristall
37 - Hrabel / Dragicevic / Morin / Lardis / Sawchyn / Brindley

Now that would have been a great haul.
Ari was gonna take him. That much is obvious

One thing that is concerning for me is if we draft no Russian players at all this year.

Imo, this is one of the better Russian draft classes in awhile. If we don't draft anyone this year again then the rumours about Montreal not wanting to draft Russian players is real. Last year wasn't that great, so easier to pass on them.

Arizona who drafted 2 Russians in 1st Round (yet passed on Michkov which was kind of hilarious actually) has a full-time Russian scout, and actually travel to Russia to watch players.

Montreal has no Russian scout, and sends no one into Russia. While people will blame HuGo for this, this is definitely on Molson, and it's political.

In essence, it's the late 80s / early 90s all over again when the European / Russian invasion really kicked in, Montreal ignored it and they were left in the dust mid-90s on. The organization rebounded only after Molson sold them.
It is definitely suspect but at the same time Russia's influence on the NHL is miniscule in modern times. There are not as many Russian players in the league anymore. If we didn't draft Americans it would be a bigger deal since they're likely going to overtake Canada in the next few decades. We didn't draft from Sweden for a long time and it didn't really hurt us.

Which would have left us Leonard. A player that fills a massive void on our team and prospect pool. Instead we get another defenseman for the collection.

very let down morning

of well, the sun came up here.... see if Kent sits on his hands today. or not
It's pissing rain here and I work outside. Lol. I'm grumpy af today.

Not sure what we can expect him to do today, to be honest.

I don’t think teams are lining up to pay a 2nd rounder or good young offensive forwards for guys like Edmundson and Dvorak.

I have a big problem with the Newhook trade. At least keep one of #31 or #37 in case a guy you love slip in the late 1st/2nd.

Still A LOT of talent left on the board here... Just in the Q: Ethan Gauthier looks like a solid 3rd liner at worst. Étienne Morin will be a stud LHD...

And none of the goalies are picked yet.

Capt Hook, ok young a former #1 pick

but not getting Leonard is a fail, this team needs this type of player, in fact they need 2 of them.

If we get Trey Augustine at that pick, there'll be much less tears on peoples keyboards/phones this morning

Habs will surely grab a goalie today. Hrabal and Fowler are the two I want the most. I expect at least Hrabal to be gone in the 2nd round. I hope at least one of them falls to a Habs pick.

USNDP goalies are always a bit overrated. Even Oettinger was already in the NCAA when he was drafted... What was the last goalie of the program that was drafted high and had an impact?

After last night the honeymoon is over with Kent. He myself now is on the clock.. what I mean by that is, every move he does now going forward, will be really looked at.
Passing on Michkov (which I was not sure on but..) and Leonard, he really has to prove that his job is cared for properly.
He just lost a lot of sympathy capital with the part of the fanbase that heavily follow the team and care about things like the draft, prospects..
