why would philly trade those picks if they knew michkov would be available at 7th?

it just doesn't make sense from their perspective.

also, reports are saying the habs did try to trade down but arizona was just as locked in on reinbacher at 6th.
Exactly. We don't know every conversation that happened on the floor. Not to mention, there were a few teams that passed on Michkov. He wasn't even the first Russian drafted! Have faith in management. People are crying way too much.

Why would we start the season will all that crap left on the roster (before the UFA market, for all it's worth) :

Suz, CC, Slaf, Dach, Newhook, Anderson, Gallagher, Armia, Hoffman, Dvorak, Evans, Pezz, RHP, Monahan, Pitlick = 15

Then, the young guns with a shot : Heineman, Roy, Ylonen, Farrell, Beck.

IMO, Hughes must move at least two of these : Gallagher / Armia / Hoffman / Dvorak

I want us to get a 2nd rounder only so we can draft a legitimate goalie prospect. Any forward or D at this point wont even be in our top 10 prospects. Our prospects cupboard is bursting. We need more high end talent.

If we can somehow come away with the best D man from this crop and the best goalie, my heartbreak from missing Michkov will be somewhat tendered.

Can't believe Pittsburgh was able to get Jagr mid first round.
He's tough to pinpoint. Definitely prefers playing on the outside but super talented. If he really did try to focus on playmaking this year and he can put together a season next year that shows off a complete offensive game he could be a steal.

Pretty funny. We got a guaranteed NHLer with legitimate top 6 potential in Newhook and a almost guaranteed NHLer in David Reinbacher who looks to have a lot of untapped potential to add to a pretty good young core and a ton of people are ready to jump from the ledge.

This team is going to start coming together. Next year will be ok-ish: still some deadwood and kids are very young, but the coming years will be very interesting.

When Hughes started he mentioned he wanted to build a team with size, skill and speed. He's brought in guys like Dach, Matheson, Newhook, Slaf, Reinbacher, Heineman and Barron who fit that plan as well as he brought in a coach who wants his team to play with speed and skill.

We actually have a management team with a plan and they are sticking to it, this is refreshing after 10 years of Bergevin who had zero plan on what he wanted his team to look like or how they wanted to play.

Gauthier, Cristall, Hrabal all being available makes us trading our early 2nd and late 1st a lot.

Ship out Anderson, Dvorak, Edmundson - whatever - get some early 2nds and grab a forward and a goalie. I would have renewed faith in the Reinbacher draft if we added two more high level prospects
