Pipeline has Gilbert's hit tool as a 55 and says he could hit 15-20 home runs while playing excellent defense. Fangraphs has the future hit tool at 50 and the power at 50. Seems like he's more than just a speedster.

MLB Pipeline has Houston's top six prospects as all outfielders. We grabbed their 1 and 4 prospects. Their top handful of pitching prospects are pretty mediocre and the top two are "safe" low ceiling guys.

I would like arms, too, but to complain we didn't get any in this deal seems like nitpicking since the top talents in Houston are all position players. To get pitchers we'd have to intentionally target less value.
Was going by cbsseports who said gilbert could be a starter for a second tier team or a 4th outfielder.

Makws me feel a little better.

Also didnt realize that houston didnt have any pitching prospects.

Wonder if this was the only place Verlander would waive for. I know baltimore has higher rated prospects and were on the race. So were the dodgers reportedly.

Might be a good idea for Steve to get on his word processor or get a paper and pen and write a letter to the fans. Can't let the media control the narrative of the franchise.

Scherzer basically laid out their plans to Rosenthal. If you don't say those quiet parts out loud yourself, it's going to be a tough thing to get up from.

I remember when Cohen bought the Mets and the Rangers had the number one pick a few years ago. I let my guard down and dared to dream….

I dislike Eppler more than any Rangers GM ever.

NHL could learn from MLB ...

“I talked to Billy,” Scherzer told The Athletic. “I was like, ‘OK, are we reloading for 2024?’ He goes, ‘No, we’re not. Basically our vision now is for 2025-2026, ‘25 at the earliest, more like ‘26. We’re going to be making trades around that.’
Honestly, if I were a Mets fan, that would be music to my ears and I'd be hoping to god it were true.

They should have sold their scrubs for whatever, but it’s good Cashman didn’t buy, the team stinks.

It’s also time for all of them to go come October 1.

Scherzer out there spilling the beans that the Mets are doing a full rebuild, not a simple retool. Fine if true, but I’d rather hear it from the organization than a disgruntled former employee.

The guy the Mets got from the Angels for Leone (who I forgot was on the team), Jeremiah Jackson, was actually their #9 prospect. I know their system sucks but still, not too bad.
It's definitely one of the worst ones out there, probably slides in somewhere in the mid/late teens for the Mets.

lmfao I scrolled past some "Leone traded" tweets and thought nothing of it until reading this post. Completely forgot about him lmfao.

The guy they got for Pham, Jeremy Rodriguez, is a lottery ticket. He's 17 but was a highly regarded IFA, so that's cool.
Endy Rodriguez was that at one time too, traded for Joey Luchessi, now a top prospect. A much preferred option.

I was going to say that all this probably depends on things like Ohtani and Yamamoto but Eppler basically just confirmed that the payroll is going to be drastically less next year.

Cohen’s internal budget is $600M but half is now going to players who will be playing for other teams next season.

One thing this whole Mets deadline has reminded me is that a ton of “experts” just google the same shit fans do. The amount of insiders citing preseason prospect lists was wild. Especially when so many of these kids traded are 18/19 years old.

The other owners are going to have an issue with Cohen shelling out that much cash to land top prospects. Have to think the other owners will try to put a cap on salary that can be retained in a trade going forward, similar to the NHL.

But right now I'd rather be in the Mets position (acquiring prospects, clearing space) vs the Yankees (doing nothing).

They shouldn't have any issue with it, they can do it too if they want to. This isn't the first time it's happened.

No one is forcing the other team to give up those prospects in exchange for eating money. They could have simply just taken on the full salary and given up lesser prospects.
