Yankees need to sell anyone with value today. Inject some youth and hope that sparks the team towards a WC run. Hopefully it's Cashman's last deadline with the team, let's hope he doesn't ruin things further with unnecessary buying today.

Are we going to sign Ron Darling to pitch the rest of the year while also doing booth work?

He cant be worse than what we have plus think of the marketing for that type of broadcast. A first for the business.

Steve really banking on the "Everyone wants my money" thing. Doesn't seem inconceivable that guys will be leery of signing here, knowing that if things get tough they'll get shopped out. Probably just worrying, as guys almost always chase the money, but who knows.

The same thing happened to Verlander as it did Sammy Blais!

I think people wont really care as long as they get paid.

We got two outfield prospects for Verlander. Still no pitchers.

Does Eppler realize we need pitching in the minors?
They did get pitchers for Escobar and used 16 of their 23 draft picks on pitchers. I would love more given how thin we are there but at this point I'll take the best young talent we can get regardless of position.

The scouting reports on these two are kind of underwhelming. Gilbert is a speedster with good defense, but not a great hitter and clifford can hit but might be a defensive liability.

Would rather taken a risk with a couple young power arms. You can never have enough pitching, especially when you currently have basically no pitching.

Pipeline has Gilbert's hit tool as a 55 and says he could hit 15-20 home runs while playing excellent defense. Fangraphs has the future hit tool at 50 and the power at 50. Seems like he's more than just a speedster.

MLB Pipeline has Houston's top six prospects as all outfielders. We grabbed their 1 and 4 prospects. Their top handful of pitching prospects are pretty mediocre and the top two are "safe" low ceiling guys.

I would like arms, too, but to complain we didn't get any in this deal seems like nitpicking since the top talents in Houston are all position players. To get pitchers we'd have to intentionally target less value.

And now they'll have the ability to make the kind of move for a controllable young arm or two. There are teams that are flush with arms and are missing the hitting talent.

Alvarez, Baty, Vientos, Mauricio, Alex Ramirez, Acuna, Jett Williams, Vargas, Gilbert, and Clifford. Clearly they all won't make it or won't make it on the Mets, but it's a group that will allow you to get what you need in terms of arms.

The next thing is going to be a little more of an issue, but I wonder if in their minds if Alonso is going to be available at some point. He's not locked up in a deal and will be a free agent after next season. I would think they'd lock him in, but you never know.

Why should they be afraid? Verlander and Scherzer came to the Mets, got paid, underperformed, and landed on contenders of their choosing.

The other owners are going to have an issue with Cohen shelling out that much cash to land top prospects. Have to think the other owners will try to put a cap on salary that can be retained in a trade going forward, similar to the NHL.

But right now I'd rather be in the Mets position (acquiring prospects, clearing space) vs the Yankees (doing nothing).
