He'd be a good value pickup. A $20+M hitter and a $20+M pitcher, in one. If Hal can get him for $25-30M, he's on board.

Is Stanton playing LF in this scenario?

I'm for the more simple approach. Sign Judge. Let the kids play. Sign Benitendi. Add an ace if you can and completely revamp the bullpen.

It will cost big $$$ though
There’s no way Ohtani is signing for “only” $30m.

He was going to defend Cole giving up 49 runs but 50 is where he draws the line,
Reminds me of one of the greatest sports quotes of all time:

You can cut the $$$ by not adding the ace we don't need

I'd do this and trade for Ohtani. He'd be that ace you'd be alluding to.

Time to Evil Empire this shit up again. Show Judge you're serious by trading for Ohtani beforr free agency hits. Bring Judge and Beni back. Sign Diaz. Sign two more bullpen arms. Shoot Hicks and Donaldson into the sun. Go to war.

how can you say we don't need an ace? Winning series is a lot easier when you have Verlander or DeGrom on the mound 2 out of the 7 games.

Every SP we have is hittable/beatable. Cole is great until he isn't and throws BP. He gave up 36 HR's on the season... that's terrible.

Our SP is 'tolerable' but can be much better.
Our RP is garbage.

Obviously the Bullpen is the much bigger issue... but both should be addressed if applicable

Yankees can't compete financially with guys like Cohen. Steinbrenner's lifestyle is funded purely by the Yankees, so as much as they want to win (not denying that they do), they want to remain profitable a bit more. Throwing money crazy around for a WS or two might be nice, but 6 years later when you're paying 100 mil a year for dead weight the Steinbrenner's would be sweating it out Christmas time not being able to buy those cars with ribbons on top for the extended family. So they compromise and spend plenty of money (Cole, Stanton, Donaldson) but they're not willing to spend stupid money (Judge AND Ohtani AND a solid catcher AND bullpen help) that a guy like Cohen, who owns the team for fun, might be willing to.

Boone should be banned from New York for turning to the 2004 Red Sox as inspiration.

It's peak hilarity that the Yankees used Cashman's most embarrassing entry on his CV to try to motivate the latest embarrassing entry.

Digressing a bit, just would like to say that Boone is the luckiest person alive that a knuckleballer threw a knuckleball that didn't knuckle and ended up a 70mph meatball. Outside of that he was an abject failure of a trade by Cashman who didn't even start that game because of how awful he was. Congrats on fooling Cashman twice.

I dunno. The 'Evil Empire' that was the source of that quote had their hubris lead to their downfall not once, but twice....and then years later they didn't learn anything and it led to another downfall. Hubris and Cashman...yeah. The Yankees 'Evil Empire' (lets just say 2003-2013) produced one WS and a whole lotta embarrassment.

Is there a 'Smart Empire' from cinema that they can model themselves after??!?

It would also be a lot easier to win the Cup if we had MacKinnon bumping Zibanejad down to line two, but

1) Those players aren't available
2) It costs a ton
3) It isn't a need

Maybe Cole isn't an ace on the level of being an automatic win, but you can count the guys who are automatic wins on one hand.

With Cole, Cortes, and Severino, we have three Zibanejad's at the top of the rotation. We don't need to spend limited funds (because let's be honest...) on a MacKinnon.

The Steinbrenners are the hospitality business.

Hal has close to a billion dollars that has nothing to do with the Yankees.

It is a need. It doesn't mean it's the pressing need. Good Pitching ALWAYS stops good hitting.

They are not 3 Zibs. stop.

I would not count on Severino. If he is healthy, great... but if you could land a DeGrom or Verlander- type, I can't see why you wouldn't do that. In my mind, it's not one or the other. You still re-sign Judge. You still get 2-3 quality arms for the bullpen.

DeGrom and Verlander are already playing for better teams and have no reason not to re-sign. You would have to outbid them by a lot and you probably can't outbid Cohen by a lot.

Why would Verlander uproot his life at 39 years old to leave a team that's at least in the ALCS every year? You would have to blow away what Houston offers.

Not to mention he's gonna 40 by Spring Training and just missed two entire seasons. If Severino is injury-prone, Verlander is crippled.

We're not arguing why they would do it.

I said if it's possible, as in they would sign with us. I'd even look at a guy like Rodon

I'd make the lineup as basic bitch as possible too

DJL
Benitendi
Judge
Stanton
Torres
Bader
Peraza
Volpe
Trevino

that's my basic bitch lineup

Can't believe I'm saying this but there's a pretty significant lack of power.

You know what? Maybe they need that.

People shit on the Rangers player development?

The Yankees haven’t developed anyone other than Aaron Judge in this “window”….

Total opposite of Houston….almost all their core guys are homegrown and they keep adding to the core…most recently Jeremy Peña looks like another stud.

According to SNY’s report, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner is expected to bring Cashman back, meaning team manager Boone will most likely return as well.
Boone just finished the first year of his three-year deal though he has managed the team since 2018. He took the team to the ALCS this year before the Yankees were swept by the Astros.

I might actually be done with this team until they change ownership. I'll be completely apathetic if they lose Judge on top of this.

I’m really disgusted- there’s nothing worse in sports than looking or feeling helpless.
Houston slapped us .

I’m out of the loop. How does Cashman returning mean that Boone is likely back?
