Emberson was interesting, not shocked he was claimed.

Worth noting also that a guy with a very similar profile to Jett Woo didn’t get through.

Yeah. Definitely raised my eyebrow a bit seeing Emberson claimed. Obviously extenuating circumstances, with a team bereft of talent having injuries and roster spots to burn on a nothing season.

But that's exactly how a guy like Woo would somehow end up getting claimed. Hopefully the Emberson claim satiates their appetite and they just leave Woo alone. I wouldn't be heartbroken if we lost him, because guys like that tend to pop up every year on waivers anyway. But it's nice to have some homegrown talent that you've invested in coming up through the ranks eventually.

Emberson has some fairly prominent accolades such as winning the AHL East's Best Defensive Defenceman. He would have actually been a very interesting waiver claim and worth trying with Hughes given how everyone else is kind of falling on their faces.

Crotty (ARI), Mitchel (BOS), Regula (BOS), Walsh (BOS), Coghlan (CAR), Bjork (CLB), Kemp (EDM), Foote (NJ), Bernard-Docker (OTT), and Fleury (SEA) are the only remaining right-shot guys on my list.

I know a fair bit about Coghlan, Foote, and Bernard-Docker but not a lot about the other guys. Regula in-particular seems like a really interesting player.

I like Coghlan, but i think it's another one of those scenarios where you're dreaming if you think that's going to be a solution. I think i actually even "picked" him back in one of those "you think you can draft?" threads despite him going undrafted. He's a decent no-fuss depth RHD...but that's probably about it. Never been much of a "ceiling" to him. Just don't think there's enough there to handle Hughes minutes.

The two Boston guys (Mitchell and Walsh) are basically just different flavours of the same thing we don't need. Smallish offensive D without great wheels. Foote can't skate.

Fleury is very much a "tweener" kind of like Juulsen.

Ultimately...if you're trying to scoop a quasi top-pairing RHD off waivers on the eve of the season...you done goofed. That's not happening. Not even a guy who might be briefly serviceable alongside a #1D like Hughes.

There's basically zero chance Bernard-Docker hits waivers at this point, after they did the obvious thing and just dumped Lassi on there. But he's a guy that i'd maybe call up Ottawa and see if Summer Pierre is still open for business at all. They seem to be in a bit of a weird holding pattern with the Pinto thing...but i did vaguely muse about whether they'd entertain the idea of swapping JBD for Hoglander. Similar caliber prospects who have both failed to fully establish themselves yet. Both up against waivers. Both have some decent but not crazy upside.

JBD is really one of the few names out there i could see actually being a slightly better Hail Mary solution. But teams aren't generally in the business of giving away RHD for Wingers. So...what that would look like, if they'd even entertain it at all...idk.

Fagemo and Moverare on waivers.

Fagemo is intriguing. Right shot sniper.

Fagemo is a terrible defensive player and I don’t see anywhere he would fit on this roster unless Boeser is traded tomorrow.

Mentioned in the other thread that Jansen Harkins is 100% an NHL player, would think hard about a claim there.

Who would you bump out of the line-up for Harkins?

I think he’s better than both Aman and Studnicka, and I actually like both those guys.

But I’d also understand them keeping guys a couple years younger to fill out those spots.

There’s also the element of letting guys who have shown up for camp determined to win jobs. Grabbing a defenceman makes sense since no one has distinguished themselves and feels like everyone is backsliding into a job.

For sure.

Harkins is just a guy I watched 5 or 6 times in the AHL last year and each time I was like ‘Why is this guy not in the NHL?’
