Bob’s list is very interesting in that it’s pretty much what I expected.

As much as there’s a Top 5 narrative being pushed, it feels like we’ve got a good handle on the top 8.

Bedard
-
Fantilli
Carlsson
Smith
(^probably in that order)
-
Michkov
(^could go anywhere in group above/below)
-
Leonard
Dvorsky
Reinbacher
(^truly any order)
-
Nobody is expected to fall out of that top 8 and nobody is expected to jump into it with Benson and Perreault being the only two getting consideration there but are ultimately undersized wingers without elite separation speed, thus being more like to drop than to rise.

Also, I feel like we do draft at 6th, we’re taking one of Michkov, Leonard, or Reinbacher. Only two of those three will be on the board where we pick. If Michkov is gone, I think we’re picking Leonard. But if Montreal takes Leonard or Reinbacher and it comes down to Michkov versus the other, I’m not sure which way we go.

I’m not feeling like Dvorsky, Benson, or Perreault are going to factor in for us at 6th.

So for my own handicapping just for myself, my expectations are 50% Leonard, 25% Reinbacher and 25% Michkov. Assuming we keep the pick where it is.

I have a sliver of hope for Dvorsky but I think you are fairly bang on in your interpretation of things.

My interpretation matches yours almost exactly.
Top 8 set in stone.

I agree that Smith is a clear #4 on the consensus rankings but I wonder if SJ surprises by picking one of the 6/7/8 guys.

Weird team for a top prospect to sign with. Very unheralded organization. Their notable alumni list is pretty shallow. I think Hjalmarsson is their biggest name ever. I’m pretty sure former Yotes prospect Emil Martinsson Lilleberg is the only name I recognize after a quick glance at the roster.

They look like the Columbus Blue Jackets of the SHL.

On the one hand, maybe he gets good minutes and opportunities. Which is probably why he signed. On the other hand, I don’t love him on one of the most obscure teams in the league.

I mean, as far as the SHL goes Oskarshamn is one of the ones I'm more familiar with, but yeah, you're right. And the fact that he's a three-year commit worries me like Michkov does, albeit to a lesser extent because Sweden isn't at war right now.

I kinda feel like someone with the talent to be a top 10 draft pick should be available to their drafting team within a year of being drafted. Maybe that's unreasonable, but I'm much more sanguine about picking a guy in, say, the late first round or second and beyond and letting them percolate for a while than I am picking in a lottery spot and being forced to do the same.

After seeing the Bobby Mac interview I’ll be shocked if the Coyotes pick Michkov.

Or Michkov.
Looks like that town has 17k residents and the arena sits 2,600. So I guess that means hockey is pretty darn popular there for them to have an SHL team. It appears to be very far away from most of the other SHL teams, too. Very interesting.

Really?!?

BPA. Trust the scouts but yeah this would be a very vanilla selection for me.
I feel like in a heavy forward draft drafting a defensiveman is a bit lame. If that's who the team really wants and michkov is there at 6, you wonder if trade down a spot or two and get Reinbacher at 7 or 8. Im just hoping reinbacher goes ahead of the yotes.

Given the opportunity, my gut tells me that BA throws the dice and picks Michkov. I just get the impression from his interviews that his uber-disciplined public image hides someone who's willing to take a gamble. Not sure how I feel about it thb.

I just don’t want Reinbacher at 6th.
Leonard or Dvorsky at 6
Anything noteworthy from the interview? Thanks
Not really. A little bit about some rumored baggage with Michkov being selfish.

Talked about a top 4 or top 5 in this draft. Thinks Dvorsky could sneak into that grouping…but questions around Dvorsky’s scoring ability.

Hopefully Montreal takes Michkov or trades down with someone who wants him. That way Leonard lands in our laps and we take the layup. aLLiteration.
You want Montreal to take a future super star winger so Arizona can take a 2nd/3rd line grinder?

Let's just hope that Montreal takes Reinbacher. Then we will know our scouts' and GMBA's thoughts on Michkov, any trade down tolerance, and have Leonard or Dvorsky there for them to choose from.

I think Montreal takes Leonard and we have a choice between michkov and dvorsky. We take dvorsky and regret it

I want Montreal to take the Russian kid who doesn’t want to play for us and is attempting to jerryrig the draft to bend to his own agenda. The 5’9 winger without elite speed and rumors and red flags swirling round his head like a hurricane.

That way we’re free to take a 50 goals in 50 games bulldog who has a laser shot and hits like a truck. The character kid. Captain America. The golden goal scorer.

Or maybe the reality is somewhere between your insanely reductive hyperbole and what I just wrote. ;)

If I'm Murello or BA, I would be pretty risk averse in this draft. Swinging and missing on the Russian after the stadium debacle would be the nail in the coffin.
Its hard not to get a little bit excited about the opportunity to draft a Elite talent in Michkov. I just dont see it in the cards for us. Leonard at 6, Danielson/Willander at 12 is my guess.

Just the opposite. With 2 high draft picks the play would be to swing for the fences with the first one. The second pick would be the "safe" pick. The high risk/reward player might not be available at the 12th pick.

The arena debacle is soooo far from impacting who we should pick.

Benson is gonna be much better than Leonard. Passing on him will be stupid. Leonard Is not in the same league as benson
