Yikes, don't even look at the former times Coyotes drafted twice in the 1st round, besides Keller/Chychrun, it is downright ugly. (not including last years Cooley/Geekie of course)

I criticize them more for trading out of the 2003 draft. The best draft in NHL history for Daymond f***ing Langkow. Cliff Fletcher.....

Cooley/Geekie/Lameroux
keller/Chychrun
Strome/Merkley
Gormely/Visintin
Boedker/Tikhonov
Turris/Ross
Mueller/Summers
Koreis/Eager
Kelman/Safronov
Focht/Briere

Couple of astute picks. You have to think that drafting 6/12 is going to yield better results than 8/30 though. Expectations should be high on both selections this year.

Anyone like this quote?
“It’s challenging this year. At the start of the year, I’m not sure we had a defenseman that we thought was gonna go in the top 10. Some guys have taken steps while some other guys have fallen off, but I think we’ll see again in the top 20 that there’s not going to be a lot of defenseman taken. It looks to be a bit better next year and yet saying that, we have no idea what’s gonna happen next year, where we’re going to be picking, so you just have to make the most of each year as it comes and hopefully you maximize your picks in whichever way you can.” - Ryan Jankowski

I’d be quite happy with that result.

I really like them nabbing Fowler and Bertucci in the 3rd. I honestly like the first six picks as a whole set.

So what are the rules exactly? I think (according to Dr Google )if we draft Michkov … we have to sign him within 2 years … or he re enters the draft and then we would receive a 2nd round pick in the same spot as our first .. so 6th. He plans to stay over there for at least 3 years .. It definitely is a risk..

(If that is true I guess we need to sign Cooley next year for sure…) Kind of a sucky rule if true..

Four years to sign college players and two years for CHL. I don’t remember the timeline for Euros.

Can Cooley pull a Wheeler on us? If so any kind of protection we can put in place?
Wheeler stayed in College because he couldn't play in NHL. Cooley is highly unlikely to choose College over millions for a couple years when he is good enough to play in NHL

unlikely given that he'd be deferring his entry level contract by 3 more years and deferring free agency further. He will sign at end of this season to burn the year.

The reason we didn't try to sign Wheeler earlier is he looked like a bust 3 years post draft. Wheeler wanted to sign but we held it off so long that the UFA option was there for him.

There are two answers to these questions. Technically, yes, Cooley could pull a Wheeler on us, and no, there'd be nothing we could do about it.

But realistically, it's highly unlikely it happens, because Cooley is obviously NHL-ready and waiting another three years for UFA with no paycheck is one hell of a gamble for a guy that talented - especially considering that he'd be signing an entry-level contract no matter where he picked if he let his rights expire.

The top 8 are the guys that I expected. I'm really not sure which one we're going to get. I'm confident that none of them will fall to 12 though.
