The national federation has to pay the insurance. And the reason the Elias Petterson insurance issue made news is because the Swedish federation deemed his insurance too high for them to pay. Yeah, they basically told the player, "You break our bank, so we can't have you." Crazy, I know.

The reason Finland got Laine - and now Rantanen - is because they were willing to cough up the cash, no questions asked.

So it's all about the frugality of your national federation. And, frankly, the Swedish one is probably still in the minority in this, and shouldn't be extrapolated to concern the other teams. At least we Finns don't have to discuss the issue, since of course our press asked our federation suits about it when the EP news broke and if it would stop some Finnish star from joining, and the response was basically, "Lol no, we don't get guys of this caliber all the time, so of course we'll pay it."

So, unless there's a concern that the Czech federation isn't willing to field the costs of their top shelf names, the Czech fans shouldn't sweat about it.

To be fair it said "may play a role" in his decision. The other two reasons mentioned propably play a much bigger role.

Chytil and Zboril are nice additions.

Also, Elias Pettersson not only wanted insurance for his current contract, which has one year remaining, but for a future extension that is not yet signed. IIHF and NHL has a deal which helps cover current contracts for a reasonable fee, but Pettersson wanted additional insurance. It was mentioned that this was in the range of €500k, which the Swedish federation was not prepared to put out for a single player.

Yeah, that too.

Anyway, it's an unusual situation, so the point stands that we probably shouldn't expect it to become a constant concern with every player making seven figures.

Galvas available, but I dont get my hopes up very much.

Ve have Jordan and Scotka. They Will definitely delete Rantanen and Laine in qf if necesary lol.

Well its oficial. At least Chytil and Zboril will come, but still a dissapointment. When you see Finland getting Rantanen its kinda still a bummer. But what can be done. Injuries are plaguing us this year like crazy, its almost unbelievable lol.

Wonder what is Zacha excuse this time, that guy is completely useless. He may even consider playing in NHL under neutral flag and it would have the same effect for our hockey.

I really hope they will consider Galvas, at certain circumstances he can still manage to play at least one or maybe even two games in Brno. I would even take him straight to WCH considering the state of our D so far. But as I mentioned earlier I fear, that Kari dont have balls to do this, and we will have to suffer Jordan and/or Scotka at the tournament.

Zacha.. Just another year when he made it clear that he doesn't want to represent and won't. If, purely by chance, he wanted to play with us in a year, I would send him to hell.

Just ban him from the NT.... announce it in the media. He's full of shit. He could've shown up and been top 6 and got a great role. f*** him.

TBH... seeing that Zboril and Chytil are committed is great! Zboril is already practicing in Brno.. he flew out fast.

Also, hearing that Galvas is available is also great news.. hopeuflly Havlat has been in talks with him and he can fly in quick to get a game in and some practice time before final cuts. I think he'd be an easy decision to make the team.

Jiricek, Zboril, Kempny, Galvas, Kundratek, Knot seems like a good start.

Kucerik got cut. He may be a late bloomer!

Lol the hate on Zacha. Part of one of the best teams in NHL history that somehow had an extremely dissapointing playoffs and you want him to forget all that and fly over to freaking Latvia for a B-tier tournament?

Zboril is coming because he barely played, I am not sure he is a much of an upgrade anyway, but he's not worse than Jordan or Scotka I guess.

Really sad to read the news. He was a father of twins that played for the London Knights (now in Extraliga and they can represent for us now). I recently read an interview from him saying he was asked to go to Nagano. He actually seemed more prominent in Czech media and it was nice to see his name. Great player! Probably very influential in many Czechs wanting to go to the NHL. As an Oil fan.. it's also a great story about the OT goal where he was benched for 7 and a half years and then skated on the ice and scored.lol

Legend!

My big gripe... Sobotka is in Top 6 again. I'm not sure why anyone thinks that is a good idea in 2023? And I love Sobotka. Curious how Spacek does in such a nice spot. Kaut already on line 4 before Chytil has arrived is a bit scary. I'd really lilke to see Kaut (total bias)!

Hopefully Sobotka is just put in there before Chytil is ready.

Cervenka - Chytil/Spacek - Kubalik
Smejkal - Spacek/Chytil - Tomasek
Chlapik - Sedlak - Hyka
Flek - Horak - Kaut

This D would be nice

Kempny - Jiracek
Zboril - Knot
Galvas - Kundratek

Hahaha, your last sentence made me laugh. I just wonder if his experience from the WJC didn't leave a good impression on him. He'd have a good role here and he'd be valued. But we have to respect his decision. Although this may impact his Olympic nomination some day.

Aw yes, that Kundratek play is a window to the future what we can expect from our defenders this year :D

That's not true. As it stands now, this is the best international tournament we have - that's a fact. Competition on WHC is higher than on the last 2 Olympics, and last World Cup was in 2004 (2016 was a bad joke, hardly can be counted as regular international tournament).

Plus I would say that there is definitely a majority of people in Czech Republic or/and Europe who generaly dont care about NHL, or are not rooting for specific team, so WCH is more inportant for them than SC Playoffs.

Insurance wouldn't be the problem. The "problem" is Pasta's private life, and everyone should accept that he is a human being, not a robot neither slave to the nation. I respect him for being a responsible person to his beloved at the first place.

Any link to where the personal issues part was mentioned? Total respect for his decision, whatever the reason, just everything I've read references "zdravotní důvody". Don't want to pry but if it's been reported on I'd like to read it, otherwise my imagination starts taking off lol

I don't see how any of this refutes the part you bolded. There is no A-tier tournament currently.

Watching the Finland-Czechia game and so far not impressed with Czech PP.
We have a limited amount of shooters! Almost none of them are here. Kubalik is one for sure. It's more a group of finesse guys that pass more than shoot. I get the feeling I'll be complaining about 'finishing' a lot.

Eg. We had a great setup for a bomb in period 1.. but it was tomasek blasting it. No offence to him but that's not rantanan or pasta.
