Now remember, you have Kari Jalonen not whatever coach you had before. He makes things work even if you don’t get the top guys.

I will get shit for this but I actually think we have a competive team! I have yet to see a roster that I think is very good for that country's standard.

Obviously, no roster is finalized but when I look around... I'm not seeing many big names or NHL players at all.

Yeah, the team looks good even if Pastrňák doesn't come. It will be a well composed team.

Yeah, I also think it can turn out well and I feel pretty good about the team. Although we can still expect unpleasant surprises, I hope that such a Sobotka will not be in the lineup. He bothered me already at the olympics.

I was suprised they even invited Sobotka to the camp. He is still good in puck control and can read the game well, but he's really slow, his once enegetic, explosive skating is gone, his grit in physical battles as well. Technicality was never his domain. Basically he is still good enough for Extraliga, but nothing more.

That's exactly how I feel about him. And it will only get worse.
I'm surprised he didn't get an invite Nestrašil. He can play everything, he is not afraid, versatile and a very good player. Disappointing that Jalonen ignored him for the second year in a row.

Nestrašil isn't exactly a speedster either. But yeah, his combination of strength and smart hockey sense could work. Jalonen probably assumed the forward group he already has is OK, and prefers to work mostly with players he had in the camp for some time.

Ftr.. Palat vs Necas in round 2. I think both would come if defeated.
Hard to predict. The player will be exhausted, maybe not 100% healthy, disappointed after the Play-Off elimination. WCH is simply a nice spring turnament, but for real top international hockey we need either (gimmick-free) World Cup or the NHL Olympic participation.

I think there is no easy solution with NHL monopoly over top notch hockey. Maybe they could organise it every two years but this event is milking cow for IIHF so it's never going to happen.

I think World Cup on regular basis, every 4 years, with no gimmick teams would be a good solution. Olympic participation is more problematic because there is the Olympic Committee with its own business goals and strategies. But NHL and IIHF might come to a win-win consensus.

The other problem with Olympics (which is my preference) is that a lot of the Olympics are in non hockey countries and the games are at insane hours. The last Olympics, games were starting at 3am.lol When it's in North America or Europe it's a blast.

If they could figure out the World Cup and get it good then I'd love it and be totally fine if it was in cities like Vegas.

Exactly. World Cup with 8/10 teams, best-on-best, competitive, no gimmick.

What is Zacha’s excuse this time? I read an interview with his father (February this year, I think) and be said he expected his son to play for the national team now that the Kral years are over. I guess simply disappointment about the elimination of the Bruins?

According to the server iSport, Pastrňák won't come (personal reasons, probably). It is of course not confirmed because iSport is quite a tabloit, they have good info sometimes, sometimes not.
It is a tabloid but they do seem to have good sources. I am surprised just how often they are the first to report some rumour / information which turns out to be true.

It's all about money and NHL just is not interested in pausing the competition every 4 years as they are primarily losing money that way. More importantly, do we wanna have NHL to have absolute upper hand not only over club hockey but also over international one? I don't.

The question of hockey lacking best-on-best international tournament, and suffering from it, even economically, and including NHL, is real and is being discussed. That's why NHL and NHLPA are actually interested in organizing the World Cup. There was a chance for 2024 edition, it was postponed mainly because of the ban on Russia. NHL (understandably) wants Russia there. Therefore they are hoping in the 2025 edition now. IIHF seems to be open to the idea, but of course there are issues to solve. But in general it looks such tournament will likely take place as soon as Russia is back. Which is of course a question of international situation, not hockey.

That's a bummer. I really liked his game for Boston this year.
It was to be expected. The bad thing is that Kulich and Rousek almost certainly won't either, because he simply won't take them without trying them out. And they play their last game at the weekend, so even if they get knocked out, there's no time to test them. And everyone, including Lauko, would deserve a chance, in my opinion, they would revitalize the team a lot.

I think 12 teams would work. Two groups of 6 teams, best four advance to quaterfinals.

Then I would compliment that with qualification tournaments leading up, like they have for the Olympics. The 8 teams that qualified for quaterfinals last time would get byes for the tournament. So that slots are not just handed to teams, they need to be earned.

12 teams would work for me but many people would complain it is too much.

Well f*** me ... Zacha is a complete dick. Wonder what "reason" he possibly could have. Damn for two days I believed we have a shot for a medal .... well qf exit it is this year, what can be done.

Next year in Prague we should be stronger.

Completely useless to have player like Zacha in NHL if he never plays for nt. He could be from Mongolia or whatever country and it would have the same effect for our hockey
Zacha is the Czech version of Ristolainen. Always invited, never shows up.

Really funny article. It says, that Pasta wont come to WCH, because he was injured in the first play off game, yet the same article is quoting Pasta who is saying something like "If we advanced to second round I would be 100% fit again, its a shame".

Well strange, that he would be 100% fit for the second round which started tonight, but he will be injured for WCH which is starting in a week from now :D

I totally respect the guy, and this look like it was cut out of context or formulated badly by media or whatever, but dont fed us with this "excuses" bs. Just say he is tired or dont want to go cause he wanna spend time with family and rest. But dont fed us with this strange injury bs which doesnt even add up lol.

Again, it seem more like a media fault and poorly written article then Pastas fault, but I just posted it here, cause its really funny how unlogical this statement is :D
