Manson still not being there is starting to be a concern the way Frankie is. However their top 4 D is still Toews, Makar, Byram, and G. This could be Malinski’s time to shine. There is basically no one out there to sign to a PTO. Ethan Bear is hurt or it’s Alex Edler or Ryan Murray from what I can see. So Jack Johnson is definitely playing and probably #5 (if Manson is actually hurt and not ready for start of season). Then that leaves a battle for Hunt, MacDermid, and Malinski imo. I think I’d rather they watch the waiver wire for D then to address the goalie situation now. Let Annunen get some games. Time is running out on him anyway so see what ya got.

Thoughts on signing Ethan Bear?

He's injured right now but should still return fairly soon, and in the meantime Malinski can get a run. Then if and when everyone is healthy you have the opportunity to limit Manson's minutes and even rest him here or there to keep him fresh for the playoffs.

Either way it seems like this D group could really use another 4/5 RHD to slot everyone right and provide insurance for when Manson inevitably breaks down.

There's nothing indicating Manson isn't healthy. The fact that some site saw the tweet about Manson adjusting something, missing the ice the day after and then decided that was all the info they needed to assume Manson is facing a career ending injury is pretty sad.

I hope everyone is seeing how out of control the narratives around here are.

All of this stems from Manson adjusting something bothering him under his pads while the trainer was tracking him. Then said it felt better and kept practicing. Then missed a pre camp optional practice just like the rest of the players who aren't practicing every day.

It created a tweet which confirmed people's bias, then other outlets picked up on the tweet and said he was dealing with a career threatening injury, and even though he's practiced at least twice since then, the narrative has been repeated so often that multiple people (through no fault of their own) still think he's injured.

Dude, there was a guy in the Navy that got a Dr. John letter from his wife while we were deployed. Manson misses multiple days in a row, I wouldn’t say it’s nothing. They aren’t doing much to bring in other defensemen so they probably do expect him to play but it is something to monitor.
