Buying him out would look very bad. Odds are higher that they just keep him for 2 years IMO.
I don’t see how it looks bad… they took a free chance it is doesn’t work, so buy him out. A second year at 4m, if he continues to struggle, would look worse.

Just curious: what kind of a fit could Broberg be with the Avs?
He’s a low IQ guy… so fits right in

 Apparently Barrie responded "poorly" to being scratched and Trotz is pissed his scratching got leaked to the media.
After a meeting late in the week with Trotz and head coach Andrew Brunette, Barrie was informed he would be scratched for Saturday’s game against New York. The response from Barrie apparently did not sit well with Trotz.

“Different players react to it differently. I didn’t like the way he reacted to it.”

Trotz emphasized this multiple times during the interview, saying he was “very disappointed in Tyson’s reaction.” He even returned to his previous refrain of “I want you to come to Nashville to win, not to retire” when referring to Barrie.

Trotz also mentioned that the scratch was “dictated by his play,” indicating that the team was not happy with his performance on the ice. He concluded by saying the team would proceed to “find a better fit” for Barrie elsewhere in the league.

But that wasn’t all… Barry Trotz also expressed frustration about the story being leaked to the media.

“We were very disappointed it got out,” Trotz said about the leak. “Because there’s only about four people in the world that knew about it. I was very disappointed in that. It didn’t come from the Preds, I do know that 100%”

Later in the interview, he reiterated the point.

“Obviously, someone felt that [the story] should be out there and they put it out there. We will get on the phones and say ‘Tyson’s not happy in his situation right now, are there any takers?’ There might be, might not. And I’m sure him and his agent will be doing the same thing.”

So… who leaked the story?

Manson and Girard have always been the obvious choices to help the Avs clear space since Manson re-signed.

Not because they don't help the team, they do, but because they make the most money among the D men not Toews and Makar, and it would be a terrible idea to trade a young defenseman like Byram.

G's recent issues complicate that, because it would be tough to trade a guy dealing with anxiety and other issues, but if he comes back this year seems ok mentally, it shouldn't be an issue.

Man did Barrie's career take a bad turn after leaving the Avs. He was supposed to thrive in Toronto but was ran out of town. He had the perfect landing spot in Edmonton and still, fans couldn't be happier to see him leave. Now this Nashville thing.

That's certainly not all on Babcock.

Cale Makar is the worst thing that happened to Tyson Barrie.

If there's one guy we should go after it's him. I'd be OK to offer Byram but Sabres already have Dahlin and Power on the left side so I doubt that's the kind of player they'd be looking for.

Yeah they wouldn't need Bo, so no idea what kind of package that would be

Trotz was a very good coach, and it's early in his GM tenure, but I haven't been getting good vibes from him in that role.

Between this and him lying about the extent of RJ's injury, and basically saying he traded guys like him to change the culture, it feels like Trotz likes to throw his own players under the bus.

Which is an odd approach as GM, because potential future players will see that, and know that Trotz isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Poile never got fired as GM of the Preds in 26 years and he never accomplished anything.

Why get so upset that Barrie's scratch got leaked? Like everybody wouldn't have found out anyway? Just feels like the RJ situation where he's making overly negative comments in order to justify trading a name player to his fanbase.

"We want players to come to Nashville to win, not to retire."

I'm not sure if you realize this, Barry, but your own organization decided to trade arguably its 3rd best player away last season to a contender in exchange for draft picks and Tyson Barrie. He did not choose Nashville. Nashville chose him.

Trots leaked that. For not wanting it to get out he sure elaborated a ton.

Also… the fact that he wants to play would signal that he doesn’t want to retire.

(FTR I don’t blame Trotz at all for being upset, don’t air dirty laundry and such)

I only skimmed it. Who leaked it? Barrie.
I don’t know who leaked it first… but it leaked of Barrie’s issue on seeking a trade stemmed from a scratch. So Trotz is being a primadonna in his first unhappy player situation where a players utilizes the media. I don’t at all blame Trotz for being mad, but he’s just Streisanding this.

Correct the whole 2nd line is the problem. All the other lines function in their roles just fine.

The 2nd line is horseshit and absolutely killing any offense flow the entire lineup has.

The 1st line needs some offensive protection from 2 to be useful and they aren't getting it.

Even last year JTC managed 50 pts. None of our current 2nd liners are even remotely on that pace.

Right now our best forward outside of the 1st line, Colton, is pacing out at around 41 pts. RyJo is at a 34 pts pace, Tatar about 30 pts pace, Drouin 21 pts pace.

Last year Compher, Lehk, Nuke, ERod all over 40 pts pace. This year we have 1 non-first liner at that pace. That's not good and we are kind of f***ed.

You want to know the real reason 29 and 96 are struggling, they have absolutely no help on offense outside of Nuke. So other teams are just playing our 1st line super tight then taking 3 straight shifts off, gearing up for another hard shift on our 1st line.

CMac's bargain bin 2nd line experiment has failed and I sure as hell hope he has a plan B. Because it's completely f***ing this team and is ultimately going to be another wasted year.
Oh boo-f***ing-hoo, if we didn't place every piece of talent on the same f***ing 5v5 unit, there would be talent and offense to spare. The problem with all 5 of them on the same unit is that absolutely not one of them goes at anything approaching 100%. They are coasting and relying on the overall talent of the entire group.

My only problem with tonight's lineup is that it should never have taken a real coach this freaking long to bust 29 and 96 up. They've been bringing each other down for some time.
