Rumor: 2023-24 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Part Deux

So when Avs traded for Kadri to be the 2C which led them winning the cup, that wasn’t smart management? They just couldn’t keep the team together because of the salary cap and it’s not just the Avs. Bolts couldn’t keep the team together but they got lucky winning those two cups in short seasons and bubble hockey. Vegas is gonna miss Reilly Smith more than they think if they wanted to repeat

He hasn't played any center. Zacha-Coyle-Poitras-Beecher has been their rotation. Zacha has the Rat and Pasta with him. Coyle runs a '3rd' line that is deployed like a 2nd line (mainly JVR/Frederic on his wings) and Poitras runs a scoring line that is deployed like a 3rd line. Poitras almost always has DeBrusk with him and then one of Heinen or Geekie.
Well they mixed them up.for a few games as Marchand was on the 3rd line

I would say with the benefits of hindsight, it was more lucky than smart. Seeing what they did to our Center depth before that 2016/17 disaster year, and seeing what they've done since Kadri left.

Kadri was coming off some pretty mediocre years in Toronto and obviously the suspension stuff... And even with the Avs he really only had the one standout year where he was a top flight 2C, and what do you know they win the cup that year.

Any team is going to mix lines a bit... what I portrayed there is what it has been for ~75+% of the time.

Georgiev is a concern.

(must have become a boomer overnight because I can't get the link to work)

I mean obviously the team was going to be impacted via the cap. But you do have to question some of the decisions they’ve made with cap allocation.

There is nothing in there that is incorrect but there are a lot of other teams out there that would love to 'struggle' to 1st place in the division.

I completely understand what you mean though and I do agree that if the Avs want to make it far in the playoffs, they'll need to address it. I don't think Ryjo has been terrible but just not a good fit in this system...just hasn't got the legs anymore.

I think they will address it though but the pressure to do something this 'early' isn't there yet since we are doing well in the standings AND the fact that other teams are not totally out of it yet.

I would expect that CMac wouldn't want to wait until the TDL though. I'm expecting a late december-january move and it will be a big one.

If you don’t think you’re #2C scoring at a 30ish point pace, while being absolutely useless at 5v5, isn’t terrible, I’d love to know the definition of the word terrible. That’s some next level homer shit.

Maybe they figure he can't be worse than Tatar? I really hope Olausson can make the most of this opportunity. Shake up the lines and give the kid a real chance:

Drouin-MacK-Nuke
Olausson-RyJo-Rants
Dude has 8pts in 20 games with the Eagles. I can’t imagine he’s going to be able to keep up on a top line.

What a contradiction...
There are many in the stats community especially that believe center is the most overrated position in hockey. I don't personally agree, but it wouldn't be at all shocking to think the Avs have some of those people influencing decisions. Frankly their decision making points to it.
Who's hurt?

One thing about OO is that his shot is a weapon. The Avs don't really have anybody in the whole bottom 9 outside Colton who can consistently beat goalies with their shot... OO has that sort of shot. The rest of his game limits him, but I understand this shot to inject some finishing.

Yeah but you can say the same thing for other cup winners like Tampa and Vegas. Knights getting rid of Smith to keep Barbashev is a bad decision. Tampa trading whole bunch of stuff for Jeannot is a bad decision etc…

No management is perfect

Ah yes. The Avs win 5 of 6 or 6 of 7 and you're nowhere to be found. Then they lose 2-3 games in a row and here you are... what a wonderful fan of this team you are. It's a ton of fun to objectively discuss this team with you.

Speaking of which, is there actually anyone still talking to you or seeing your posts? I think I might be the last one, lemme fix that.

But I'm not heartless, he's a parting gift :

This past summer I unblocked everyone I had on my blocklist. There were a couple users that ended up right back on it after just a few hours.

I'm not talking to him but I still see his posts. It is way too entertaining to see him show up as soon as the Avs lose. I have this picture in my head of nammerus watching the games. He sits at his computer, drooling, his hands above the keyboard and waiting anxiously for the Avs to blow the game. When they do he starts yelling "Finally. That's my cue. That's my cue. Here I go!!!!!!!!"

Some people love to feed off of negativity. There's a similar poster in a Finnish hockey board of my local team. Practically only shows up when the team is losing where so that he can bash people. The players, the coaches, the organization, whatever. When the team is winning, he's nowhere to be found.

I personally, when the Avs or the Rangers enter a bad stretch, just rather stay out of the boards for a small while. The NHL is about entertainment for me, and if the team is not providing me with happy feelings would rather just stay out of it and not think about it. And it doesn't mean I don't follow the team, just don't want to delve in the negativity here.

Which is worse, complaining relentlessly in a GDT when the Avs are winning 5-1 or coming around after a loss or during a losing streak? The latter seems a little more justified.

CMac should have traded the farm for a 2C so we could have spent this season griping about lack of futures and poor long term vision instead of possibly not winning the president's trophy this year.
