Detroit will be in the playoff hunt. They may not make it, but they have a better team than last year who is off to a solid start. Unlike the West though where 92-94 has a really good shot at getting you into the playoffs. 97-99 might be needed.

My thinking would be that, I don't know if the Wild are overly interested in Byram if they trade JEE. Mostly because I think if they were to trade JEE they're probably going full rebuild and I would guess aren't particularly interested in 23 year old NHL Dmen. By the time they're competing again Bo would likely be ~28 or so while the rest of the core is still only 20-23 range.

I would guess Ritchie would be the #1 ask from them. A Center with Top 6 upside. Then at least one 1st round pick. Then depending on what else goes in the deal possibly more picks.

Something like 2024 1st + Ritchie + Gulyayev. Or 2024 1st + Ritchie + Behrens + 2026 2nd. Sort of deal. Even then that might not be enough. Guerin doesn't strike me as a guy with much interest in undersized Dmen.

If they were interested in Byram, a Byram + Ritchie deal for JEE + Depth dman could be close I think. Perhaps with us still adding another pick.

Byram going for JEE would make me a part time Wild fan... I don't think I could live with myself if that happened.

Trade wise, it'd definitely fit with the direction cMac chose to take. But you're putting all your eggs in the basket of Girard discovering how to not be an alcoholic.

Trade likely wouldn't happen until G returns, but I'd also say with almost 100% certainty that G will return. Unless he just ends up retiring, he'll play for the Avs again and I actually think he will look way better when he does return.

Byram is absolutely an untouchable now. We ride or die with him
He absolutely should not be untouchable... He is currently and is going to be a good player, but the Avs already have 2 top pairing defensemen locked down. Then another guy who has played a top 4 role. Then debatably 2 of the top 3 or 4 prospects are projectable middle pairing left shot defensemen.

If the Avs fail this season (and anything but a Cup is failure at this stage), Byram should absolutely be a piece on the market to solve whatever issue cropped up.

He is untouchable right now until the Avs have 100% clarity on Girard.

Otherwise we're running JMFJ in the top-4 full time.

Summer is a different story where changes can be made with more fluidity than in-season.

I think you mean Girard... but the Avs aren't making a big move tomorrow or likely even this season. Byram has the best mix of value and expendability to solve any major roster issues... that really means he should be the one moved if a big move is needed.

Could the Avs swoop in and grab Zegras on the cheap? He’s more than likely a winger, but has experience at centre.

3 years at $6mil fits their timeline too.

Plus our team D looks way better without Girard, he is the expendable one

But don't we create a roster issue if we trade Byram?

We can quit the trade Byram talk now. It's not happening.
