Rumor: 2023-24 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Part Deux

I said this half jokingly in another thread earlier today but honestly CMac should be blowing up Bill Guerin's phone every day right now to try and convince them to blow that team up and send us JEE in doing so.

His cap hit and his skillset is quite literally the perfect fit for our 2C needs. Would instantly extend the window 2-3 more years.

Byram+ or Ritchie + Goulash + or whatever the hell they want. And send Johansen or Manson in the deal to offset salary(Not sure Manson would waive this year to go to the Wild but maybe in the summer).

And the thing is if you get JEE, even if Landy comes back next year, it wont take a lot of work to get cap compliant still. Just need to move one Dman essentially. And then you get to run a Top 9 forward group of:

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Landy - JEE - Lehky
Wood - Colton - Kovalenko
There's no 'joking' about it... that's probably the play that the Avs need to find a way to get done.

Would solve a lot of issues as far as the #2C position goes for 6 years. I don't see how the wild do that without Byram going the other way. That's probably also with a Byram playing better than he has been for the last 10-12 games because he hasn't been good for that stretch.

The other one is getting Brock Nelson from the Islanders. With that one, you can still keep your Ritchie for #2C in 2 years plan as it would be unlikely the Avs re-signed Nelson when his contract is up at age 34 but you get him for two runs.

I think the Avs would keep Ryjo in either case for depth. It would give them options as far as the #3C and shifting either Colton, Nelson or Ryjo to wing.

In both cases, neither the wild or the islanders look like they are in a position to do much damage as far as contending at this time. I don't think hynes makes much of a difference for minnesota, in fact, I think he's horrible and they've absolutely downgraded from that crybaby evason.

Manson has been MUCH better the past 3 games and if he can keep up that level of play, you absolutely keep him. You don't have much choice if you're actually trading Byram anyhow.

The cap hit difference from JEE/Nelson to Byram is roughly the Francouz LTIR contract.

Then the Avs could look adding an impending UFA d-man at the TDL for their Cup run.

I'm happy with RyJo's goals but I'd feel a lot more confident about the sustainability of his offense if he had a normal goal/assist ratio.

9G 1A and many of those goals were the kind of lucky bounces that may not happen again during the rest of the season.

Not sure where you're going with this but he got a 6 year contract because another team (or more) was offering him term as well. That's FOR SURE. The Avs don't hand out term just for fun but they really wanted him, so they had to do it.

Personally, I think he's been great and exactly as advertised. In fact, we were told he has a tendency to take a lot of bad penalties a la Lake Como but that hasn't been the case at least up until this point. The addition of Wood gives us a forechecking option with size, speed and physicality we haven't had in a while. He compliments that 3rd line extremely well and it's not going to be fun for other teams come playoff time.

He's a 30-35 point guy who does a lot of things that don't necessarily show up on the scoresheet but make a difference at the end of the night. It's a far cry from having these mediocre 5'11 floaters who don't do anything other than put up 30-35 points per year, if that.

He's this teams version of Matt Calvert. You win with guys like Wood and Colton especially in the playoffs.

He's well worth his 2.5 mil contract.

The Avs can't afford to trade Byram anymore. Not when Girard is facing so much uncertainty.

IMO as soon as Girard entered the Player Assistance program, Bowen Byram became untouchable.

My thinking would be that, I don't know if the Wild are overly interested in Byram if they trade JEE. Mostly because I think if they were to trade JEE they're probably going full rebuild and I would guess aren't particularly interested in 23 year old NHL Dmen. By the time they're competing again Bo would likely be ~28 or so while the rest of the core is still only 20-23 range.

I would guess Ritchie would be the #1 ask from them. A Center with Top 6 upside. Then at least one 1st round pick. Then depending on what else goes in the deal possibly more picks.

Something like 2024 1st + Ritchie + Gulyayev. Or 2024 1st + Ritchie + Behrens + 2026 2nd. Sort of deal. Even then that might not be enough. Guerin doesn't strike me as a guy with much interest in undersized Dmen.

If they were interested in Byram, a Byram + Ritchie deal for JEE + Depth dman could be close I think. Perhaps with us still adding another pick.

Might have been that even before. If the team knew about Girard's problem, and I would be surprised if they didn't, then they really had no choice but to hold on to both Toews and Byram.

Definitely a weird choice for Kane... especially considering he didn't get term or high AAV
It isn't really weird... plays with his BFF in an area he played in his youth. To me, this was one of the most expected destinations.
