I wouldn't completely rule it out.

Bednar has made exceptions - Makar, Newhook, Timmins, and Ranta all got postseason experience with little NHL experience.

Outside of Makar, Kovalenko is farther along than the other names when they finally joined the team. IIRC Ranta only played because of a slew of injuries, but if Kovalenko shows something prior to the playoffs he'll have an opportunity, albeit a short leash IMO.

Makar is generational. Newhook was essentially an injury replacement in both 2021 and the 2022 cup run, IIRC he started as a healthy scratch in 2021. In 2022 he was playing to start I think but then ended up a healthy scratch over Sturm and NAK for a while.

I think especially if we do go deep into the playoffs Kovalenko would get games. But at least to start, I don't see any way he has a spot to start the playoffs if Landy is also coming back, we trade for Lindholm, and we're at 100% health to start the playoffs... You're basically looking at a healthy roster of:

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Lindholm - Lehky
Wood - Colton - Drouin
Cogs - Olofsson - LOC

With RyJo and Kiviranta not even listed either.

If Monahan is indeed CMac’s solution to the 2C hole I will lose my shit and be all aboard the fire CMac train.

With all of Toews, Rantanen, Makar and to a lesser extent Byram on sweetheart deals this year, you have to go all in.

It would be absolutely deflating to the fan base and quite frankly the players in the locker room if Monahan is the best player they acquire at the deadline.

What is going more all in then getting the guy that’s better than MacKinnon. I’ve been told repeatedly that he has regained all of his value as well!

I'm not even confident Lindholm is going to be good here, but I'm up to the cost of bringing him in, which is rare for me. This team isn't good enough to win a cup and it doesn't have a lot of good chances left to waste anymore. Rather not waste 20 years of suck by not putting all the chips on the table just to extend our window of being a strong regular season team.

Newhook was essentially an injury replacement in both 2021 and the 2022 cup run,

He actually played the same amount of games as Bura and only 4 less than Kadri during the cup run. I agree tho. Nobody should be penciling in Kovalenko. Same with Landy.

Will be a disappointing deadline if that’s what C-Mac is doing. Avs need to operate like neither will be able to help the team in the playoffs this season.

So he was an injury replacement.

So he was an injury replacement.

I’d say he started off as one but was basically a full timer after the 1st round. You had it backwards. He missed the Nashville series/first 2 games vs St Louis than played the rest of the way. 12/20 games. The entire cup finals/WCF. I wanna say it was Bura getting healthy scratched that had him come in.

I’m excited for Kovalenko but I hope they aren’t counting on him to be an every game option come the WCF/SCF without even seeing him in the NHL. Even with the usual injuries need a backup.

Says he doesn't think CMac and the Avs are willing to pay the price to get Lindholm.

Of course CMac wont pay the price......

BUT sending a 2nd rounder to Washington for Lars Eller and his retention, when there was no need to do so, thats a classic Avalanche-Thing to do....

But wait, do we have a 2nd rounder left? Maybe the pick 2026 will get us something.....
