It all sounds like Friedman doing his normal inject Avs into any big rumor.
Byram most certainly has good value. He's on the clock to start showing more in the NHL, but he could struggle the rest of the year and still have good value this summer. Now next season if he struggles the first half to the deadline, the narrative and value will change. Struggling at 23 and in the last year of a bridge deal is very much different than struggling right after an ELC.
With all of this, why doesn't Drysdale also have good value though? He was the 6th pick vs 4th pick... nearest makes no difference. Unlike Byram, he has a full healthy season under his belt where he put up over 30 points and was a 20 minute guy a game as a rookie. He's dealt with injuries the past two seasons (so has Byram), but when he's played he's looked very good. He's a right shot which adds value. People are acting like Drysdale also doesn't have have top pairing potential and is a scrub here... when his resume is very similar to Byram. I think there is a difference, but they are not in different universes.
I think people also are underrating Gauthier. He's not perfect, but he's definitely a top 10 prospect not in the NHL. An argument can be made he's a top 3 not in the NHL guy.
