He really wasn't. Nice dude, but he was horrendous. Q should've stopped his musical goalies bit, and just played Budaj full time. I still beleive Q ruined Budaj's development, and he would've been great.

Avs don’t win that first round series against the Minnesota Wylde without Theodore. Even Patrick Roy never beat them in the postseason IIRC.

And the Avs tried playing Budaj full time the following season. We all know how that went.

And no, Q did not ruin his development. A coach can’t really “ruin” a player’s development. They can slow it down or speed it up but they can’t just halt it in its tracks. The hard truth is that Boods was always just a good backup. That’s it. Giguere thinking he could shortchange Theo and go with a Budaj/Raycroft tandem is one of many reasons why he’s not even in hockey anymore.

Q absolutely f***ed with Budaj's confidence and ruined his development. He outplayed Theo and deserved that net way before he got it. No one will ever convince me otherwise.

Theodore was fantastic for the Avs in 07-08.

Not his fault the entire team hit the IR vs Detroit.

He was also phenomenal vs Dallas in 2006, though he did play like buttcheeks vs Anaheim in the 2nd round.

That’s fine, but fact remains that Budaj went to other organizations and other opportunities and never rose above backup status. For you to think that’s because one coach f***ed with him in, like, his third NHL season is reeeeeaally stretching a narrative there. If the NHL starter potential was there, it would’ve shown up. Only injuries would’ve derailed that and I don’t recall Boods dealing with major injuries.

And FTR I’ve always been a big Budaj fan.
