In a 32-team league, it takes some luck to compile talent. Other teams have gone through this where you draft and draft and scour free agency but just can’t land that A-level talent that separates you from the pack.

Seider’s a great talent, and the trio of Larkin/Debrincat/Raymond is an OK foundation. But none of those guys are competing for awards, and after them it falls off so sharply. So they’re in that middle range with no truly top-shelf talent and also not enough depth to be afraid of. Tough spot to be as a franchise and there’s not a lot to be done but keep drafting and looking for opportunities to benefit from someone else’s cap crunch. What else can they do?

It's interesting to me how triggered some people are by Yzerman.

So much focus on the GM of a rebuilding team.

I look around the league and see lots of mid teams and underperformers and think Yzerman is doing a great job when you compare these other clubs.

Some are on their 2nd or 3rd GM since 2020 and still failing, some can't make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs when (on paper) should be playoff world beaters... but fold like a cheap suit.

They have no identity. They are the definition of mid.

Their offense has a few game breakers but everyone else just ass. Their defense has like 2 nice pieces. Everyone else ass

What type of team are they even trying to be? They're not even a gritty or feisty team, so that's not their makeup, either

Hard to say with such a huge turnover rate and short term contracts with vets as they wait for their big name prospects to graduate and start filling the roster with youth. It's part of growing pains.

in a capped league you cant spend your way out of the basement that the redwings were in when yzerman took over , at same time he also took over the weakest depth chart in nhl with only larkin n hronek to build around . also had to rebuild the coaching / scouting / developmental staffs including minor league coach . thats a huge undertaking that takes time and excellent drafting , and so far yzermans drafting has been fantastic . and during this rebuild era ufa signings mean zilch as theyre just here to help develop yzermans culture for prospects to develop amongst . the group 23 and under is rock solid and detroit has all their future pix and a bunch of expiring contracts thatll be gone by 2026/27 when redwings are ready to contend . yzerman is as good of gm that is out there and is going about this rebuild perfectly

Downfall???? Downfall from what?

It’s like when the McPoyle fell from Paddy’s roof but it was only 4 feet or so.
Tarasenko was a terrible addition would be surprised if he returns a third at the deadline.

It’s always fun seeing who pops and who doesn’t as an FA- if you’d told me Monahan would be lookin ok and Tarasenko was back to stanko I’d say no way.

Their fans and teams constantly argued on here that they were not tanking those years. They absolutely were trying to make improvements the year they drafted 6th and after.

We shouldn't believe this after the fact claim they tried.
I'm not a fan of the team, and if any other team fielded the kind of rosters they did when they were the worst in the league...even if you didn't "want" to tank, you were still actively not putting the kind of personnel on your roster to be competitive.

What is going on with the Detroit Redwings!? Each game is just a letdown to sit through! Despite all the star power we have this year, we can't even score like we did last year! Poor overseeing from
management to put Husso in for the NYR game tonight too! Something significant has to happen for this organization because it is unacceptable!!!
This is the first time I’ve heard “star power” to talk about the wings.

They’ve been pretty terrible, but are two points out a playoff spot. They’ve squeaked out some wings they shouldn’t have.

Either they continue to play bad and it catches up with them, or they get their act together and be a bubble team as predicted.

They need a new coach yesterday

Yeah, typically takes 6+ yrs for a rebuild if you go by the Yzerplan, lol....by year 10 he should have this nailed.

Derek Lalonde aka Blashill 2.0 being his homeboy from Tampa as his go to is hilarious.

They did tank properly, and were awarded the 4th overall pick lol.
They didn't take enough notes from Kyle from Chicago on how to do that correctly.

Star Shoppin
Could be worse, could have a GM like Brad Treliving that can't make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs as the team's window is starting to close.

One team on their way up, one on their way down.
Detroit is on their way up? You sure about that? To me it looks like they're on the way down compared to last year.

So jokes seeing wings fans like you and nbwings going on about how Detroit is on the right track and doing well and they should make the playoffs this year because ya know, progress is always linear 🤣

You guys will be rebuilding at least the next 5 years. Not 1 single franchise talent yet. Your boy Stevie y is butchering that franchise.

Detroit got over a decade of essentially icing an all star team themselves every year. Once the last of those left the team is directionless. No one has actually had to build a team properly in Detroit for so long. The reputation of the city outside sports has also plummeted in those years. Doubt a whole lot of star power is lining up for Detroit.
