What is going on with the Detroit Redwings!? Each game is just a letdown to sit through! Despite all the star power we have this year, we can't even score like we did last year! Poor overseeing from
management to put Husso in for the NYR game tonight too! Something significant has to happen for this organization because it is unacceptable!!!
You look like contenders compared to my team.

Early in the season so far. You have 6 teams in the east who have started with good records (Florida, Toronto, Carolina, Rangers, Washington and New Jersey). Then you have 8 teams that are just around 0,500 hockey (+1 points to -2 points away from being 0,500). New Jersey was expected to have a stronger season than last year where they had some injury problems. Caps is the biggest surprise for many, but their adds seem to work out so far and some of their own have grown a lot, but they might come back to earth after a hot start.

Expect Tampa to take a place, but even with Kuch playing so good they are just around 0,500 area so an injury to him or Vas and they might struggle this year. Boston usually alway get through aswell, but this might be a year they fall out.

Detroit always getting the smoke here. They loss to the Leafs and Rangers back to back so not gonna actually flip tables. Edvinsson-Seider has been good, Kasper looks to belong and hopefully the points come. The bad parts are all players we can cycle out in 1-3 years. The real questions are what does Kasper, Danielson, ASP, MBN, Cossa and Augustine top out at? Do we find some unicorn in the later rounds like Lombardi? Not Andrew Copp or Justin Holl.

They looked awful and listless this weekend. What a disaster Yzerman has been
They actually played well this weekend. It's not like the Leafs blew them out. Difference in that game was special teams. Rangers game they carried play for a good bit of the game. They had their 3rd string goaltender in due to an injury.

They have no identity. They are the definition of mid.

Their offense has a few game breakers but everyone else just ass. Their defense has like 2 nice pieces. Everyone else ass

What type of team are they even trying to be? They're not even a gritty or feisty team, so that's not their makeup, either
Hey, hey they had 4 hits last night alright. It's quality over quantity with these guys

Edvinsson is great and I think will be even better than Seider, easily a 2D right now. Seider is a 1D. The rest of the D are 5/6 level or worse. Johansson looks like he could be a 4D but the coach won’t play him and keeps scratching him.

Larkin is a good 1C. Raymond is a good 1W. Debrincat is a good 1/2W. Everybody else is a 3rd liner or worse.

The wings problem is that there is nobody of note on the team beyond the top pairing and top line.

They haven’t look good this year. Even their wins…they beat the islanders getting out shot 30-11, and NJ getting outshot 40-20. They should honestly have only 3 or 4 wins this year

If anything they are overachieving. Just like the few years

The wings problem is they don’t have a franchise forward to build around

You have to have it to be able to compete in the East.

What's going well this year:
Edvinsson-Seider: after a slightly rocky start as the rookie got up to speed, our first pair has been great. They're productive, they play the toughest competition in the league and they win their minutes. They're by far our brightest spot right now. They're overworked and outmatched, with poor forward support, and they're succeeding anyway. On a team that can support them, things would be even better.

Larkin and Raymond: Raymond has struggled with goals but these two guys run our offense. If they're on the ice together, they make up the nucleus of what's actually a great first line. Split them up and the second line is actually reasonably effective.

Talbot and Lyon- they're responsible for most of our wins.

The powerplay- it's dynamite right now.

What's going wrong:
Chiarot-Petry: they're getting relatively sheltered minutes and still being absolutely annihilated. Bad pinches leading to odd man rushes. Complete inability to pass or skate the puck. Somehow weak around our net. Complete lack of willingness to adapt their games to the system, other players and their declining physical attributes. If they're on the ice, we will not possess the puck, or leave our end. We simply hope that the other team fails to score. Right now they're the worst pairing in the league. You could put them out there with prime Gretzky, Lemieux and McDavid and they'd still get crushed. I've been a Chiarot hater since he was in Winnipeg. He was surprisingly okay last year when we gave him easy minutes. He can't even keep that level up this year. Petry looks fine when he's with Ed because Edvinsson covers his mistakes. Chiarot doesn't cover people's mistakes, he exacerbates them. They're a terrible stylistic fit for each other, having almost identical deficiencies. Replace them with an average second pairing and I think you'd see the entire complexion of the team change.

The rest of the defense- needs to be sheltered and honestly have not been much better than Petry-Chiarot. They've still been better, but in baby soft minutes. If we could bench Chiarot and put Petry on the third pairing we'd be better off, but we don't have defensemen that can take those minutes.

The secondary scoring- Kane is great on the power play, but hasn't been good at ES this year. Tarasenko is similar but less productive. Kasper and Berggren look like our best forwards outside of Larkin and Raymond, but neither is productive. Debrincat is good if and only if Larkin is carrying him. Copp, Compher and co are fine at defense, but don't produce much.

Lalonde-our system is a mess. We collapse very low in the defensive end because we're too afraid of HDCA, so we turtle around the net. This mean we end up chasing other teams as they cycle if they get into our zone until the goalie makes a save and freezes the puck. There is no chance of a turnover and rush. There is no pressure on opposing forwards. They can just pass around the outside and fire pucks on net without a care in the world. When we do get a steal, we don't even try to keep possession. The forwards fly the zone to center ice, leaving no passing options if a D was looking to pass, and we dump it to center. Then our Fs are hoping to create a second turnover. Most of the time, this just means the other team collecting our dump, and coming straight back in to our end against exhausted defenders. I can't even judge our ES offensive systems because they so rarely get the chance to run smoothly.

The flu- it's a lame excuse but some guys are clearly under the weather. Husso just got a start because both goalies are too sick to play. We rely heavily on our goalies.

The best news from this is that our future core players are generally succeeding. The team's big problems should go away over the next year or two. With a new coach, ASP, Danielson, MBN, improvements from Kasper and hopefully an effective defensive addition, we'll be fine. Will the new kids be good? It seems like it, but who can say for sure. Will we be able to supplement our core with savvy additions? I'm worried about this because apparently we tried to add Trouba this off-season and he's just Chiarot/Petry that hasn't aged out of competency yet. We're good at finding discount scoring wingers. We're terrible at finding effective defenseman. Our center additions are okay.

On the other hand this thread was made after they legitimately looked great against one of the NHLs top teams. They also played really well against Toronto the game prior. So the timing is bad to say they’re overachieving. They deserved 1-2 points minimum last two games which would have stopped this thread from being created.

Every team has had plenty of those games this season. Not many teams have a third of their wins while being outshot 3 to 1 or 2 to 1

Ah yes, the bi-weekly Wings troll thread after they lose some games

I mean if you guys are happy never making the playoffs again that’s cool. Just don’t be shocked that the rest of us never quite understand why Yzerman is considered some sort of managerial genius.
