I think we also need to accept the fact that IF we do make a trade for a 2C, that player is going to have warts. The likelihood of the Avs acquiring a picturesque 2C is probably close to nil.

The Avs are simply going to have to choose which negatives they are going to accept, whether that be inadequate defensively, offensively, age, contract, etc.

Colton wasn't brought in to be the 2C though. And we knew that JTC as 2C didn't work.

Then you spend the 1 mil more and have Compher at 5m for 3C and can be used up in the lineup in case if injuries and aquire a proper 2C for 6-9m which would be what Johansen is getting and use Girards money after we trade him. That 2C would have been Kadri.

I'm being facetious but PPG is only .37 vs .31 for Zegras so he has sucked ass this year to date.

Does he really? The regular season and the post season aren’t the same. Are you punting on this season so he can have this learning experience? And what does he do when the offense isn’t there? It doesn’t seem like he has the maturity to do certain other/little things? Or what then is/was his issue in Anaheim?

Your reply seems to make certain assumptions about his trajectory only pointing up. Is that really a safe assumption? Is it possible what you have seen is the best you get and is that enough?

But that’s the point. Any player we get will have questions. Any player we get we’ll have to make assumptions about their play here.

The Avs will attempt to do their due diligence with any player they acquire. We can then only hope that player fits.

The harsh reality is that I don’t see the dream 2C out there just waiting to get plucked for the Avs. If that player is even available, he’s likely in high demand by multiple teams.

I’d move Byram++ (assuming we’re adding Ryjo as well) for Zegrss

Maybe we have seen the best but the odds of him going back to it is pretty high. I think it is not a reach to expect around 20-25g and around 70-75 pts on this team. I am also confident Bednar would be a very good coach for him to reach his potential both offensively and defensively. I also think we have the leadership on this team to get him more mature especially if Landy comes back.

I guess I worded that poorly. Because I think there's a big difference from being an asshole like Zegras and have an edge like Kadri.

McTavish, Carlsson, Gauthier, Terry...they are building a top 6 that won't be fun to play against. If they are confident in their young dmen, an elite goalie prospect is probably the last piece they'd want.

Then they can move Gibson to get even more missing pieces.

Chances are Ducks are 2 years away from being pretty scary.

That’s not at all what I said.

Every player has a list of pros and cons. I don’t have the slightest idea what the Avs are specifically looking for.

2 players that we discuss on this board, Lindholm and Zegras, both have pros and cons in different areas.

I’m not going to pretend I know which one would be best. I’m not going to pretend I know what their trajectories are in the short term.

Educated guesses for everyone here.
