You guys who participate in these lineup exercises are better men and women than I am. I guess you can rearrange in the top 9, but there is just soooo much interchangeable crap organizational depth up front that needs to be cleared out of here before this team is ready to take the next step
Our lines only look slightly acceptable when we’re fully healthy, as @The Midnight Burrito pointed out. Which is never the case.

There’s too many guys in the org that have zero puck skills. They can’t all be Zegras/Terry/Carlson’s I get that, but man a guy like Nesterenko is a breath of fresh air. Has some skill and upside even if he’s going to play in the bottom 6. Need more of that

Neste better stop taking stupid holding and hooking penalties every game

The Athletic has ranked Chicago's top-2 center duo (Bedard and Reichel) over the Ducks duo of (Zegras and McTavish). Reichel is being converted to center this year for Chicago. We're also ranked below Montreal's duo (Nick Suzuki and Dach), where Dach played mostly wing last year.

This reminded me that our first game is in Vegas, who will have already played 2 games at that point. And our second game is the next night against Carolina. Those games might be as ugly as last night.

So, after today’s moves:

Fowler-Gudas
LaCombe-Lyubushkin
Mintyukov-Thomson
Vaakanainen

Just my current thoughts:

One of Minty or Zell makes the team in a sheltered role. The three veterans plus LaCombe will get a ton of ice time.
Hagg and White assigned to AHL.
Vaak makes the team as #7 for now.
Thomson makes the team until Drysdale signs.
Luneau returns to Q for more development.

Jeffrey Viel was waived 26 yr old enforcer and will fight often unlike the shell of Kassian.
Verbeek of course won't claim him just like he let every other tough guy get signed by other teams.
You mean 26 year old enforcer with a whole 49 NHL games to his name. No thanks.

Glad you see meaningful importance of not having an enforcer on the 4th line vs useless plugs who offer nothing especially on a team with no team toughness. Shocking
Kassian in his prime is a different story

:thumbu::thumbu:
Useless plugs have 49 games at 26. I don’t want someone who plays 5 useless minutes a night to get into a staged fight. I’m all for beefing up the 4th line, but Veil ain’t even close to a solution for that.

staged fights that happen after a dirty hit. b/c having an enforcer has never actually stopped dirty hits from happening. 5 minute a night goons are useless players

Gretzky and Semenko absolutely say otherwise.

Granted, that hasn’t been the case for 30 years.
fair, but yeah today's hockey is different. i rather ice a 4th line with 3 NHL caliber players instead of one with 2 nhlers and a goon who can only fight as a response or to throw their own brand of dirty hits. give me a guy like deslauriers anyday over the corpse of kassian or some career AHLer

We are on the same page. Big guy who will skate fast, handle the puck like it’s not a grenade, HIT very hard and punish, and then back it up by being a scary fighter, sign me up. But there’s like 3-6 of those guys any given year.

Not hating this roster:

top 6: Zegs, Mac, TT, Killer, Rico, Lundy
bottom 6: Vatrano, Strome, Silf, Leason, Carrick, Jones
D: Fowler, Gudas, JD, LaCombe, Boosh, Vaak, Thomson

A quality bottom 8 team for sure.

Can't wait to upgrade Rico, Silver, Vaak, Strome, Leason spots at the very least in the coming year (or years in Strome's case). We might get out of the bottom 12 by then and reach the playoffs.
