This is what you do every time your captain / leader / Assistant captain gets hit like this. No, "it was a clean hit", no "we were down 1 and only 7 minutes left to play".... Nic Hague could play on my team any day of the week.
Agreed. Actually, I would like more of both of that on our team. Nasty hit with purpose and someone then standing up for your Captain.

I tuned into the Sens/Preds game via radio about 6-7 mins ago as a Sens goal was reviewed for goalie interference and after it was finally confirmed there was goalie interference and no goal on the play, the Sens challenged that there wasn’t actually GI it took another 3-4 minutes to determine……that there was still goalie interference. What a waste of time that was.

It’s bullshit. Without a third review by independent arbiters how are we to really really know if it was GI or not? Puts a cloud over the whole game. I think the results of this game should be held for a week while they look further.

Caught the Sens/Preds since it was the only game.

Watching the Preds is like watching the Bruins, right down to their jersey color. I remember last summer when both teams made big splashes in free agency jokingly thinking that should these teams meet in the Final, it would be a task distinguishing the teams, due to the aforementioned similar colored uniforms.

Clearly that won't be an issue. ;)

As much as the B's have underwhelmed, the Preds have more so. I don't know what the lessons are - you can't build a winner through free agency? Be wary investing in older players? Consider the supporting cast when looking at a players' stats?

And yes, that goal review was interminable. At some point they might as well just flip a coin.

All those factors are relevant, and things you have to careful of. But then what Washington did in the offseason was not so different to Nashville, with very different results. I think more than anything, the thing with these attempted upgrades is not so much to do or avoid this or that, but rather to have the wisdom and luck to get the right players in the right mix at the right time, whatever exactly that looks like for your particular roster. Simple principle, difficult to execute.

I have a very dubious opinion of the seasons a couple of players on Washington are having.

JDB with one goal and one assist since Jan. 8, and in the game in which he scored, he was a -4.

If you could bottle "Jake on Fire" with "Freddy playing Engaged" and mix them together?

Fuego!!!!!

As it is, bot players can be like a firework on which the fuse is slow. The anticipation is there. The hope is there. But so is the potential to be majorly let down.

Will it go bang and look pretty of just go pfffffffft?

Think that was pretty unavoidable. Guy actually played the puck and then in case of what looked to be a collision anyway, braced to be hitter and not hittee in said collision. Think most players would do the same.

Not trying to blame victim here, but Thompson’s peripheral vision and awareness left something to be desired.
He wasn’t even going in for the hit. He went for the puck, played it and braces for impact with an off-balanced player coming the other way. As for a hit to the head, come on. Thompson is like 6’6”, if he wasn’t stooped over there’s no head involved.

Wish the NHL would go back to the mindset that players need to take a modicum of responsibility for their own safety. Don’t want to get drilled head-first into the boards? Quit turning away from hits. Don’t want to get crushed open ice? Keep your head up.

I doubt any of these so called head hits are intentional. It’s a collision…the guy with the puck is leaning forward, that brings his head forward and down. The guy playing defense is standing more upright. Thus, shoulder to head happens. Wasn’t as much of a problem when the pads weren’t rock hard, guys weren’t flying around on the ice so fast, and players kept their eyes up to brace for a hit.

They should just get rid of hitting altogether. 15-20 years of slowly ruining it; I’m not sure you can even bring it back into the culture of the game. All I know is, I watch old games on YouTube and get excited…I watch the NHL now and I’m done by the end of the 2nd period.

The red bricks of City Hall Plaza will be refashioned as an NHL red carpet later this month when the league and its players welcome one and all to a fun, free, interactive fan village as part of the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off at TD Garden.

The fan village will be staged Feb. 15-17, coinciding with the 4 Nations tourney to be held on Causeway Street, including the semifinals on Feb. 17 and the final on Feb. 20.

The competing nations are the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden, all four of which will participate on the world stage a year later at the Winter Olympic Games in Italy.
The fan village (no ticket required) will be open each day, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and will include a number of interactive experiences as well as autograph sessions featuring NHL alums, giveaways, and music. And, yes, there will be food, though the league news release did not specify if poutine, the gourmet delight of Quebec and cardiologists, will be a featured menu item.

The Feb. 17 semifinals will begin at 1 p.m., with Canada facing off against Finland. Bruins captain Brad Marchand will be suiting up for Team Maple Leaf.

Sweden, with Bruins center Elias Lindholm, will face Team USA, with Bruins Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman, in the evening game (8 p.m. faceoff).

The tournament begins a week earlier in Montreal, with the NHL shutting down after games this Saturday (the Golden Knights in town to face the Bruins at 3:30).

The games in Montreal will be played Feb, 12, 13, and 15 at the Bell Centre.
