also has seth jones really regressed that much, jesus. worst contract in the league? 6 more years at f***ing 9.5M! even with the cap going up, woof. what a f***ing nightmare redden esque contract

still mad they signed lindgren and passed on trading for Chychrun
considering they traded jack and shit for him, yeah. We probably could have got him for Lindgren and a 3

Not saying I know the answer but it's funny that Ryan Lindgren is the worst defenseman in the world...until people start suggesting realistic options to replace him lol

well considering we’ve been playing the worst defenseman in the league on the top pair, the replacement isnt a barely better than him 3rd pair guy, it’s gotta be a guy who is a legit top 4 option. or we’re basically where we were.

Unless we move Schneider to the left, but I wouldn’t do that.

"Who are we replacing him with?!"
*list of 5-10 options*
"Nope, these guys are all the worst!"

That's what all those "Who are we replacing him with?" posts amount to. People being contrarian for the sake of it.

he's always been pretty bad. He got away with a ton of sloppy play early on because of his mobility but it caught up to him and Columbus did good trading him when they did and Chicago did bad trading for him and giving him lots of money.

Stuff like gaps, positioning (body and stick) funneling players to the boards, all the basics of good defense are things he has no clue how to do

I would argue that Fox and whoever replaces Lindgren as his partner should not be treated like the top pair. Fox doesnt have the physical traits to be the #1 guy 5v5, and on the PP, and on the PK. Not upgrading on Lindgren because the upgrade isnt big enough to fit an arbitrary label or role is limiting yourself unnecessarily. Im not saying I love Ferraro or Soucy all that much but, if you put a guy like Niko Mikkola (not a top 4 defenseman by a lot of people's metrics) next to Fox, Fox is probably in the Norris conversation this year.

Heh?

Look at what he's doing with one of the worst defensemen in the league.

He shouldn't be on the PK though that I agree with, but they should get him a real partner and play the f*** out of that pair 5v5.

His skating ability is not up to par with his peers. Not sure how that is even debatable. My point is you don't need to add a top pair LHD to "save" Fox. He and the team will improve astronomically if we just get him a league average partner.

The skating doesn’t matter as much as people want it to. This is coming from a guy who thinks skating is way more important for D than it is for Fs.

They should get him the best partner possible and f***ing play the balls off of them. Look at his impacts with out Lindgren. He eats at mega elite levels and that’s with players who aren’t top pair level either.

With an actual top pair quality D? He’d shit all over everyone. He’d lock up multiple Norris trophies

I'd probably play Fox less on the PK but he absolutely can play top minutes 5v5. Despite his recent dip and the resulting pearl clutching around here, he is a fantastic defensive defenseman. Get him a real partner and let him cook.

This is a completely fair and reasonable take on a team that has viable alternatives. Schneider, Borgen and Miller should all be on the PK. Whoever the hell is Fox's partner should also be a PKer. That's 4 guys right there. Rotate Fox in if one of those guys in the box or play someone like Vaak who I still like even more than I anticipated and I was discussing him in the offseason a buy-low candidate.

Andersson is a terrific player. How are we getting these guys? We are pretty much tapped out? No good picks anymore. I guess we could trade young prospects or roster guy like Lafreniere or Cuylle but I would rather not.
I read recently that Andersson wanted to play in US. Schneider is from western Canada. Schneider, Miller and Othman for Weegar, Andersson and one or 2 of their young Dmen they’ve accumulated over the past few years. We do get older 28 and 31 (I think) but the young Dmen we get will be ready in a few years. Weegar can run shotgun with Fox.

We don't have a 2nd round pick until 2028.
It’s still early. 2033?

GAVRIKOV!!!!!
over chychrun? no, he’d be ok but he’s gonna get way too much money for an offensively limited defenseman. chychrun is also a fairly young UFA at 27, especially for a defenseman. gavrikov will likely get 6-7 years at 6M, which will take him from his age 30 to age 37 season. that shit screams albatross. chychrun otoh will be a ufa at age 34 if he signs for 7 years

chychrun could put up 25 goals playing with Fox

editing this to say that honestly 6M is probably a low end cap hit for him. he could get 6x7 or 8x5 for sure.

I dont think its good for an undersized guys longevity to be the top minute getter in every situation. I'm not criticizing him but the Rangers have not been smart with this guy. He already seems to have lost a step. A partner who can skate with at least more size than Lindgren should be what they are after. We don't need to limit ourselves searching for another Devon Toews.

Im curious why everyone hates Ferraro. Have people actually seen him play or are they just looking at his charts? Because I wouldn't expect to see much blue for a guy who has spent his whole career on one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Mcfarland is a pretty smart GM historically. Just saying. I mean everyone said Borgen sucked and then when he was good it exposed what I have thought for awhile. fans don't actually watch the players they talk about.

I'd take that for Gavrikov. Chychrun plays about 60 games a year. That's rough...

He should be in for CK if he's not 100 percent healthy but CK could be at 25 percent and probably would still play over Kaliyev
At 25 percent he would probably play more effectively too. If we’re going for a playoff spot, I’m more comfortable hoping Kreider gets healthier than suddenly Kaliyev becoming a legit NHL player.

Carson Soucy is the guy. Get it done and get Lindgren the hell out of here.

Punched his name into twitter to find some highlights. He can really shoot the puck. Good wrister and not afraid to walk in from the point. also seems to have a knack for finding guys for odd man rushes with stretch passes. I'm in. Im sure he's having a bad year but so is everyone on the Canucks. Played with Borgen in Seattle and JT in Vancouver.

His game reminds me of Marcus Pettersson.
