9 games means nothing for Zellweger. He isn’t slide eligible.

On a tangent for the slide rule, I was looking at capfriendly thinking we should have four prospects who would qualify for it in C Gaucher, LD Minty, LD Warren, and LD Luneau. Capfriendly doesn't identify Gaucher for the slide rule, but puckpedia does.

I believe Gaucher does qualify b/c he's still 19 years old as of Sept 15th.

Correct.

An easy way to tell is if a player is slide eligible is if they are in their D+1 or D+2 and were not overagers when drafted.

Ah. Well I stand by what I said. I think he has enough to work on in the AHL that he's by no means a lock. If anything, I'd say Luneau is closer to being responsible enough for NHL play than Zellweger and certainly Lacombe is ahead.

His path to making the roster got that much harder once Thomson was claimed.
True but out of him minty and zell i think he’s got best chance to play to start season… could see him getting 9 games.

Zellweger and minty will likely start in AHL and come up later in the season

Cronin has gone lefty-righty on nearly every defensive pairing we've seen so far this preseason, so I don't think Luneau is competing for a spot against Zellweger and Mintyukov.

Depending on how Luneau finishes the preseason, I don't think it'd be too big a stretch to see him get 9 games - especially if Drysdale remains signed. I don't think he'll get anything more than that though.

Sens waive Bernard-Doker as well, lol. But I never understood the hype around him. Anyways, someone I think we might put a claim in:

Egor Sokolov. Former 2nd round pick, with solid numbers in the AHL. He is a big winger, skating is not great, but he likes to battle (#13):

With Killorn out, I would not be surprised if we picked him up to see if he can get a spot. Even if he does not have a proven NHL track record. He has been a top scorer in his AHL team past 2 years but I'm not sure about his defensive game. First year he was with among the best +/- but last year, with among the worst. We won't pick him if we think he's a liability.

Sokolov would be a decent add… better than leason and brings that pesty sandpaper style of play

Right now I’d say the roster is something like(ignore the lines)
Henrique zegras mctavish
Jones carlsson terry
Silf strome vatrano
Nesterenko carrick mcginn
Leason

I could do without silf and mcginn tbh… wouldn’t mind getting sokolov in place of mcginn… unfortunately I think silf stays around to help with carlsson

Yeah, I feel like adding Sokolov adds to the competition nicely. I like Nesterenko and McGinn kind of have a spot on the 4th line, but perhaps Sokolov can make it more interesting. We can then waive the odd ones and hope they get to SD who can really use some help up front. (edit: I think Groulx is also in the mix, and we cannot send him down without waivers anymore).

Overall solid lineup, especially when Lundestrom returns but I kind of expect him to not be that good this year after such an injury. Without injuries I'd put:

Zegras-McTavish-Henrique
Killorn-Carlsson-Terry
Jones-Strome-Vatrano
Groulx-Lundestrom-Nesterenko

Very solid lineup, perhaps we need to add in McGinn for the PK ability tho.

What are the chances Mintyukov makes the team ?
Id say pretty low(assuming no injuries) ... hes looked fine but we should be in no rush to bring him up... let him dominate the AHL for a half year - a year and continue to work on his dzone play.

Lacombe is prob the guy that makes it out of our young players on LHD (zellweger/mintyukov/hinds spend time in AHL developing more)

You guys who participate in these lineup exercises are better men and women than I am. I guess you can rearrange in the top 9, but there is just soooo much interchangeable crap organizational depth up front that needs to be cleared out of here before this team is ready to take the next step

That's why this season and next season are still developmental seasons. We're waiting for a lot of cream talent rise to the top.
