I don't know if I like that first sentence. I know you guys couldn't give two shits about Vegas but I found it infuriating that they would sit Cody Glass (in his second year) in the press box and only play him when an injury would free up cap space when Vegas' AHL club was right across the valley. I mean it's one thing to not send him on the road with the AHL squad but as long as they were playing home games, why not send him down to get some game action?

I doubt Leo would sit as much as Glass did in this hypothetical scenario, but I don't like the idea of a top prospect sitting out of games when a nearby AHL team is available for said top prospect to get game time reps. Hope it doesn't become an issue.

Not hating this roster:

top 6: Zegs, Mac, TT, Killer, Rico, Lundy
bottom 6: Vatrano, Strome, Silf, Leason, Carrick, Jones
D: Fowler, Gudas, JD, LaCombe, Boosh, Vaak, Thomson
Vaak isn’t part of this roster moving forward

They did it with Z and McT too. You expect him to get probably 65+ games, probably closer to 70-75 baring any injuries. They are just trying not to overwhelm the kid and wear him out.

Sounds like it’s more burnout-related over a long summer than a development issue. Which makes sense, there were times when you’d watch McTavish in the latter 20-25 games of last year and visibly notice that wear and tear had set in

That's fair. I didn't really think of it in those terms. With Glass it was the inverse. He missed loads of time to injury, was ready by the time his second year started but only played a third of the games and sat in the press box. So I'm probably a bit traumatized from that.

I'm not sure I agree with this sentiment of guaranteeing to be in the NHL all season. With McTavish, there wasn't an option for the AHL. With Carlsson, the AHL option exists. Carlsson has looked worn with each passing game and was neutralized in the last game against the Kings.

Did Carlsson have as difficult a summer as McTavish did? Mac played 80 games in his NHL rookie season.

Carlsson was just the best player on the ice in the game tonight. He didn't bury his chances, but he was dynamic, he made good, smart passes, he easily skated past guys, and his hands were incredible. I'm all in for this guarantee.

Has Gibson left the game in every single one of his preseason starts? What's the deal? Is he made of glass, being a diva, or just wanting to chill for all of preseason?

When healthy we could have

Zegras-McTavish-Terry
Killorn-Carlsson-Henrique
Vatrano-Strome-Leasson
Jones-Lundestrom-Silfverberg/Carrick

Fowler-Gudas
Lacombe-Drysdale
Mintyukov-Lyubushkin
Hagg
Zellweger

That’s a team that could win some games.

That’s a team that could win some games.

Line 1: Z-Big Carl-Terry
McTavish and Terry lack chemistry. Z-Carlsson-Terry have instant chemistry because they're all finesse guys and Carlsson loves to pass, like Getz loves to pass. And Terry thrived with Getz as his center.

Line 2: Rico-Mac-Killorn
Mac will have to fend for himself until Killorn returns from injury. Mac and Killorn play the physical game.

Line 3: Vatrano-Lundy-Jones
Strome is no longer a center. It looks like he's lost his game. Lundy and Jones are fast skaters. Lundy does loops and Jones crashes the net. Vatrano can be the sniper in waiting.

Line 4: Strome/Leason-Groulx-Silf
Groulx and Silf are part of our PK unit.

=======

D-pair 1: Fowler- Lyubushkin/Drysdale
Probably put Drysdale with Fowler, but Lyubushkin is the more perfect complement to Fowler as a stay-at-home d-man. Yet, Drysdale has played with Fowler as a top pair in 2021-22 after the TDL.

D-pair 2: LaCombe - Lybushkin
This will accentuate LaCombe's offense with Lyubushkin playing it safe. Plus, it's a rookie-vet pairing.

D-pair 3: Minty-Gudas
This is another rookie-vet pairing. Since Gudas often gets into fights, his usage would be incompatible for top-4 minutes. I don't see the coaching staff telling Gudas, "whoa, whoa, whoa!" because that's one of the primary reasons Gudas was brought here, to give the Ducks bite. Minty has a ways to go defensively, but he's trying to throw his weight around in big hits. His hits don't connect like LaCombe's big hits because Minty needs to add more bulk to his frame. LaCombe has had four years worth of bulk building in an NCAA system.

I don't see the Ducks putting Strome on the 4th line. He's not an energy guy or a defensive guy. He thrives setting up better players. I'd like to see him on the RW alongside McTavish and Killorn, setting them up. Move Henrique down to 3C for now.

Why are you punishing a better player in Rico? If Mac gets thrown off the FO dot, then Rico is there. Stroke needs to earn our trust again.

It has nothing to do with punishment. It's all about getting the most out of our assets. Strome isn't going to earn anyone's trust if he's put in a position that makes no use of his skillset. He has to play alongside better players who can take up space and defensive attention, he has to have shooters to get the puck to, and he can't be relied upon to be a defensive stalwart. However, if he IS put in that situation, he can be effective as a set up man and play driver. It's what he did well for three-plus seasons in New York.

Henrique might not put up great offensive numbers as the 3C, but, unlike Strome, he can be an effective defensive player. I think he and Vatrano and McGinn could make up a nice checking line that can also put a few goals in. I'd love a better passer on that line alongside them, but I think that's a decent third line.

Most preseason games they rotate the goalies out anyway... He puked on the ice in one of them so there's no way he was staying in for that, and last night he looked uncomfortable with his hand. No point keeping him in for a preseason game

I can see why Ducks choose Carlsson now. He not only makes plays. but he drives the play too.. 2 different things.. Fantilli is good but he is not a play driver.. Carlsson has the IQ.. Fantilli does not
As Fantilli probably will be completing for the Calder he's looking like a legit star. What a ridiculous post
