Tbf to Risto he has really improved as a player over the last 2 seasons...

with a lesser role and making far better decisions, he is playing like a good NHL #5 Dman. I have no real complaints with his play over the last 18 months...

But yeh, that is worth ~$2.5m, not 5.1m aha.

If someone offers a decent pick for him, even if have to retain, take it.

That is what I was going to say - I think we'd all be fine with Risto as #5 D...but the assets to get him and then the contract! AH!

Without a doubt he's been better, the contract remains awful.

It's almost like they said, "despite your ceiling and size, we're going to dumb you down and make you competent enough to avoid being scratched"

It really is crazy when watching though, you can easily forget he is on the team!!

Wonder why the flyers had scouts out at the red wings/ leafs game?
Leafs are always mentioned around the flyers d. Knies and Robertson are the obvious names to scout.

Now if you want to go long long long shot. Since Samsonov got the start would the leafs make a run at Hart?

Or something along the lines of leafs have interest in risto and will trade picks but you have to take samsonov back to make it work under the cap?

Just spit balling.

Problem is this is a really undersized D right now, and size still matters, especially on the D, in the corners and front of the net. Ideally you'd like balanced pairs. The game has changed, but not THAT much.

Risto and Seeler are their only physical D-men (Sanheim's improved, they're no longer kicking sand in his face but . . . ). Bonk will probably fill out to 200-210 lbs in 3-4 years but that's well down the road. Attard brings the size and snarl, but he's like a young Risto (somewhat clueless on defense) so Shaw will need time to clean him up.

Torts saying Frost sucks defensively and is a 1-way player who needs to score worked out similarly to when he refused to play Zuc because of defense. It’s always been a flawed evaluation.
I don't think Torts has said that at all, in fact he's praised Frost for his improvement on defense.

Torts problem with Frost has been consistency (the toilet seat analogy), Frost tends to play a passive game, similar to G in that G was always patient with the puck, but Frost doesn't have G's IQ and vision, so when he's passive, he's usually MIA (play dies on his stick).

When Frost uses his legs and drives play, he's a better player, which is why he's best with wings like Tippett and TK, who use their speed to drive play.

Frost is playing faster, early in the season his Edge stats were those of a player with below average speed (i.e. he was rarely using his speed), now he's in the 71st percentile of bursts over 20 MPH.

Right now, Frost does have a spot as one of the team’s top three centers. But out of the three, Frost’s long-term hold on a job appears the most tenuous. Sean Couturier may not be all the way back yet as a play-driving monster, but he has eight points in nine games thus far and (more importantly) has seven years remaining on a massive $62 million contract that includes a no-movement clause; most likely, Couturier isn’t going anywhere. Noah Cates last season provided similar offensive totals (eight fewer points) while grading out as far better defensively, and as long as Tortorella remains in the mix, Cates isn’t going anywhere.
That leaves Frost as the offense-first center in their mix, except 46 points in 81 games isn’t exactly standout production for a player with little two-way value. Without a further scoring leap, it probably won’t be enough to keep top prospect Cutter Gauthier from taking Frost’s spot down the middle once he signs his entry-level contract and turns pro — which could happen as soon as next spring.

Tk doesn't need a letter, he's our Marchand, the guy you love and the rest of the league hates.
Don't you think it's odd that this team only has one guy wearing an A?

Do you know why players wear those letters besides for the locker room reasons?

Also who wears the C on Boston?

Do you think a letter would give Couts any more gravitas in the Clubhouse?
The letter I think merely lets a player intervene with the refs.
I think Torts would rather have the refs pissed off at him than at his players.
