Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

Where’s that “realist” who predicted that Scheifele would play even worse after not making team Canada? Second most goals in the league since that post.

I’ll preface by saying that I actually like the Jets and I hope they will succeed.

But holy crap is this not the same song and dance we’ve seen the past two seasons? IIRC in 22-23 they were first in the west until January, looked absolutely dominant and they ended up in the 2nd WC spot, clinching a spot in the last game or two of the regular season.

Then last year they were setting all kinds of defensive records, allowing 2 or less goals in god knows how many games in a row. Only for them to get their asses blasted (pardon my French) by the Colorado Avalanche in 5 (where they let in 5 or more goals each game, an NHL record).

Is that why no one is talking about their ridiculous 12-1 start to the season? How is the Jets fanbase feeling about them this year? What about fans of other central division teams? I thought Scott Arniel was an underwhelming hire, but they’re doing well.

Is something different about them this year? Or will it be the same song and dance come crunch time?
"holy crap it's not the same we saw the last two seasons"

No I dont think the Jets are at like the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2018 - 2024.
They are for real.

He's since changed his tune on the Jets board. This was after predicting they'd go 0-3 on the Montreal/Boston/Washington road trip.

They don’t completely depend on Helle to win games anymore. That being said if he performs like he did in last years playoffs, we will get smoked and labeled pretenders. If he performs close to his regular season, this or last year, in the playoffs we should be one of the favourites. The PP is such a ridiculous weapon this year, and as long as the chances don’t significantly drop in the playoffs, they should keep scoring.

Their goaltending is good enough to steal a series. They could be a tough out for a lot of teams.

Just depends on goaltending, as it always does in the NHL. I think they will add another piece. Right now, they don’t quite have the horses to tilt the odds against VGK, DAL, EDM, etc. They would need Helle to be at his best

Toronto is for real. I think it's their year, finally.

I'm thinking ECF.

Where they go from there will be solely on Matthew's shoulders.
The Leafs disposed of the Oilers. If that does not show the yare wining the cup nothing will.

All come down to Helly. We saw him crumble last playoffs so I expect it again untl proven otherwise.
He did not crumble if you look at the 'advanced stats'. The Av's just scored on more of their high danger chances( which shockingly were almost even) than the Jets did and couple Av's had career playoff rounds whereas the Jets stars were all bad. I still fear a playoff meltdown by the jets but I am enjoying this most recent winning streak.

He did crumble because the Avs scored at least 5 every game of that series. He got outplayed by Georgiev.

The Realist is here ( I may change my name to it). I appreciate the shoutout. I may start a podcast called The Realist Jet Fan and you would be my first guest! I am happy to be proven wrong by Scheif and the Jets. I actually have one foot in the Jetplane aka bandwagon right now and am cautiously optimistic that if Chevy does not mess with the chemistry on this team, there are no catastrophic injuries and the hockey Gods smile on the Jets that they can win a round but I still am reluctant Beleafer and think the cup is the Leafs to lose.

I agree he was out played by a goalie that was ultimately traded and had a career playoff series. The fact is the Jets have proven nothing yet other than being a good regular season team but to blame that series on Helly is wrong. He was not at his best but he had no help and teh Jets do not make the playoffs last year without him.
