Well, with deadline only ~6 weeks away... can tell you what guys got on my new EHM save aha.

Atkinson: Late 1st
Walker: 2026 1st
Seeler: 2nd, 4th
Hathaway: 3rd
Staal: 4th, 4th
Deslauriers: 7th

Laughton and Ristolainen on the block... few days until deadline... some solid offers:

Best for Laughton: 2025 1st and 2025 4th (New Jersey, almost accepted)
Best for Risto: 2025 2nd

Briere getting anything less than that would be a disappointment then. Lmao.
All of those offers would have been accepted by me

Minnesota kid Bobby Brink benched versus the Wild.
Torts can't help himself

Mutual termination at this point
I doubt he'd ever agree to that, he wants his money

Why wouldn't he, in fact I expect him to sign this spring, he's not going to have a bidding war, he's still limited by the CBA, and what team offers more opportunity for a young center? Flyers have money and a great opportunity to seize a job before they bring in young competition.
I’ve heard that managing the bonus overages can be very tricky, in some cases even impossible.

Are there limits to how many buyouts you can do per year?

I'd say Atkinson and Pederson are prime candidates, Flyers could use cap room more in 2024-25 than 2025-26, buying them out gives you $7M more next season at the cost of $3.6M in 2025-26 when they'll have oodles of cap room.

What do they need the cap space for? We've got almost $18m in cap space heading into next season (if the cap goes up to $87.5m) with Hart, Tippett, and Brink as the only 3 who will need significant extensions. We shouldn't be dishing out any dumb UFA contracts this summer either. Best to just let those contracts ride out without adding to our dead cap space

While it's a lot of cap space, it's also a saleable commodity to teams who need cap room, allows you to pick up bad contracts (Pederson is a good example). Better to smooth it out over the next two seasons, plus you want to move them off the roster to make room for other players/contracts.

Torts isn't scratching any of these guys in their hometowns because he thinks it makes the team more likely to win on that night. It's a purposeful head game - he would call it coaching - with that specific player. I'm sure in his mind he's teaching a powerful lesson to any guy he does this to and that in the end, if they have the right stuff, it will make them a better player (and the team better as well.) I'm sure that some guys respond in the way he wants them to, psychological tactics like this can be effective, but you can also teach accountability and humility without being a manipulative asshole.

Yeh, in real life his contract and the fact he is a 3rd liner on most teams mean that unless retained half would probably get nothing for him.

With 50% retention ($2.95m hit) and only one year left after this maybe could get a 3rd or something.
At this point, I’d retain half and take a 7th for him. Just having him off the roster is reward enough

I watch every game. I don’t even notice Risto anymore, especially when we have 7 D. That’s crazy. He legit goes missing for me
That means he's doing his job. A good defensive defenseman shouldn't be noticeable most of the game b/c it means he's not making bad mistakes, think of Braun before he got old, did you ever notice him?

Though Risto is being more aggressive on offense, his best play last night was when he got back on Zamula's turnover and forced the shooter to stay on the right, limiting the angle Ersson had to cover.

If/when Kochetkov’s hot streak ends,

Hart + Laughton to Carolina for Nikishin could make a lot of sense.

I’m sure Hurricanes fans would hate that because they’ve been so excited about Nikishin for years waiting for him to come over, but they’re ready to win a cup now outside of goaltending.

Streak ended when he got a concussion sadly.

My fantasy team weeps.

Oh that’s right. I forgot he was concussed. Well, yeah. Then it might make sense now.

Although, I would think the Hurricanes might wait for him to come back (seeing as how concussions usually aren’t super long term) and see if his good play continues or if it was just a hot streak. It’d obviously be better for them if they just needed a backup or a 1B and could save their top prospect.

I’d imagine trading Nikishin would be their last ditch effort if everything else fails.
