I think Deslauriers served his purpose, look at the young players early in the season and against Calgary, Calgary played one of the dirtiest games this season, but the kids weren't looking around for help, they stood up for themselves. When Gauthier arrives, Attard comes up, Foerster fills out, etc. this team won't need "enforcers."

You still have to play physical in the NHL, especially in the playoffs, not fighting, but not letting teams roll you, winning board battles, hitting on the forecheck, and taking hits in your D-zone to maintain puck possession. It's partially size and partially 'tude.

Now that contract . . . that's another matter, but easily buried by a team with no cap issues (costs $500K a year).
Have to quote this. Thank god gauthier will arrive.

Have a feeling there will be a trade that comes out of left field by Briere, like a player for player swap or someone like Tippett for a pretty good prospect and a cap dump type of thing. The Flyers need to move in one direction though. Either be firmly in the playoff seeding or out by the deadline

should new guy be penciled in on the first pairing already? give him a few games to warm up to the team and supposed scheme

that jimmy saul goodman twitter account has been saying that tippett hart and tk arent gonna resign and hes been posting about cutter not signing since the wjc was still going, maybe they tank now?

Hopefully Hart peaked at the WJC in 2018.

That kick save he made with the skate blade was unreal in the gold medal game.

That and his playoff runs against the Winterhawks. Two years in a row he went full on Parent on us.

Hate to see him traded but I get it

Makes it easy to flip them for picks/players.

Zegras has a really juicy contract, TK will be like 30 when Michkov arrives. I love TK but the timeline just isn't right.
Maybe we trick anaheim into giving us their first with dark magic. ;) Hello Demidov!

DannyB gonna get us something good :) Or I'm going to be very upset!

Assuming the rumors about Ristolainen drawing trade interest were true, what do we think a trade would look like?

I'm wondering if there's a team with a forward under a similar contract and a need for a defender. If there's no feasible swap scenario, seems like they'd have to dump Ristolainen as they did with Hayes.

Atkinson CF 48.10%, xCFrel -2.28, xGF 49.66, xGFrel -3.06, pp/60: 1.67.

He can still skate, top speed 22.74 (83 percentile) but bursts over 20 are below average, so he may be at the stage where he has to conserve his legs.

Mediocre 3rd pair RW who as a FA would probably garner a 2yr/$4M contract, which means even with 50% retained, he's probably unmoveable. So look for a buyout this summer.

Why would they want to dump Risto?
Finished strong last season, so far this year, CF 49.40%, CFrel +1.17, xGF 55.61%, xGFrel +8.10

He's big, physical and has become an above average defensive defenseman, even improving on offense as he gets more comfortable on defense.

What we gave for him is water under the bridge, while he's a bit overpaid, it's not a ridiculous overpay anymore. On an undersized team, he provides size and snarl without being a liability on ice. And if you trade Walker and move Sanheim back to LHD, you have a hole at RHD, if you bring up Attard, it'll be as 3RHD with Risto moving to 2RHD.

If you want to move him the best time would be summer 2025, with 2 years left on his deal and time for the young D-men to mature a bit. But they might just hold onto him, depending how Attard, Bonk, Sotheran mature. Anyone they draft this year won't be on the team until the end of his contract.

For what it's worth, his analytical profile on some of the sites I sub to are flat out terrible. Like bottom 10 percentile for effectiveness. He just can't do it anymore.

I am all for a buy-out this summer.

This could be a blessing in disguise. TK could get a nice haul back himself, especially in a bidding war. I’d imagine it’s the standard good young player, high end prospect, 1st round pick. Tippett could probably get a 1st equivalent. Hart…who knows? Goalies values are hard to gauge

Are they even using Ellis's LTIR money yet, or still stockpiling extra cap room.
Though with adding Drysdale, they pretty much have to eat into that LTIR cap room.

You're right. At least according to Cap Friendly.
They have about $3M stockpiled for the TDL and are still adding.

Next year $18M, with Hart, Tippett, Poehling, Brink and Zamula as RFAs, so that's maybe $7 million? Hart already makes $4M, Tippet $1.5.
Almost $50M in 2025-26, with TK (UFA), Frost, Foerster, and York RFA, so maybe $10M (net) to sign them. Net b/c TK already makes $5.5M, York $1.6, Frost $2.1.

So if you buyout (how many allowed?) Pederson and Atkinson this summer, $10.88M, $3.6M for two years, so
2024-25: around $18 ($18M plus $7.2M minus RFA raises).
2025-26: $50 minus $3.6M minus raises ($10-15M? + previous raises) so $25-30M.

Lot of cap flexibility going into the next two summers to make deals.

I thought his legs looked dead to start, but lately his pace relative to general play is fine. Everything else isn't. A major problem is that his shot looks awful. Can't hit anything. For a shooter, that seems a big problem, but also wouldn't be surprising after a severe neck injury and at his age.

Also think Atkinson was overused to start the season, he'd be better used in a sheltered role, keeping his legs fresh, the way Boston is getting production out of JVR playing him 11 minutes a night at 5x5. Spot Atkinson against weaker competition, O-zone faceoffs, and keep him fresh.

It's tempting to bring up Tuomaala, but he's so raw I think that would be counter-productive this season.

Ignoring talent and risk (wait a few years to find out who won the trade), on a strictly clubhouse chemistry basis, Flyers are far better off with Drysdale than Gauthier. Drysdale sounds generally excited to be here, the players were enthusiastic about the addition.

It remains to be seen what kind of teammate Cutter will prove to be. But his behavior so far would raise a red flag to me in terms of a sense of entitlement. It's not that he chose not to sign with the Flyers, but the way it was handled was simply bizarre, there's nothing "private" about an athlete's professional decisions - it's business. And whether it's him or his family, you want to deal with these situations in an adult manner
