Seeler and Walker are getting traded, it's just a matter of when. They're not making the POs, Briere knows this, he watches all the games.

Atkinson will be a summer buyout, Hathaway might get traded this summer with one year left, I think they may waive Deslauriers. Laughton will be on the block, as will Poehling. I think they'll keep Risto one more year, easier to move with 2 years left on his deal and they may want to see how things shake out between Drysdale and Bonk.

The Gauthier trade really doesn't change things, they still need to load up on centers, and add depth to the defense pool. With the surplus of RWs, I expect a trade.

In the off-season, I was pretty confident in my belief that unless something drastic happened with an immediate influx of elite talent (e.g. lottery pick), they should trade Konecny. If we are sitting here today with Ryan Leonard or Dalibor Dvorsky, I wouldn't be thinking twice. It's a wrap. But the Flyers lucked out drafting a 1st overall caliber talent. There's a legitimate non-delusional pathway to utilizing a 29 year old Konecny with Michkov. Wait for it.....wait for it.....

The issue? Making almost no effort to rebuild before that timeline. They can't even sell high on bottom 6, nearly 30 year old team mascots with nosediving numbers. They're already talking about how they're all set on top end skill; they don't even want to build a team with multiple stars. They'll very likely not be a contender throughout Michkov's RFA years and very likely spoil the 3-4 years of value in Konecny's next contract.

I don't really have a point. Just enjoying my piping hot brew of nihilism.
Realistically, what is the return on Konecny?

A first and a high end prospect?

Risto should be the odd man out... any chance Toronto is still (rumoured) to be interested? I'll deliver him by horseback. I'll even hogtie and drag along a gently used Marc Staal as a free gift.

Sanheim/Drysdale
York/Walker
Zamula/Seeler

would be my top 6, but I'm guessing the obsession with LHD/RHD will mean Zamula is the odd man out for now, and Seeler/Risto are bottom pair.

Why does he insist on putting Atkinson and Tippett together as wingers. They are terrible together
Actually it's more about reuniting Frost and Tippett, who have great chemistry together.

As far as the bottom six, since Deslauriers is playing 8 minutes a night, it's really a 5 man rotation over two lines.

Is that good roster management?
Relative to whom? I've seen a couple Phantom games, no one there I'm in a hurry to promote, Allison has really slipped, Laczynski is meh, Lycksell has regressed. Tuomaala, Desnoyers and Avon probably only forwards with a NHL future and they're not NHL ready.

When 21 year old Tuomaala, coming out of Mestis, and playing half the season in the bottom six, is your leading ES scorer, says something about your AHL veterans.

Is it good roster management to have a player that can only play 8 minutes a night (that's generous)?

Yes or no?

It's fine, your 12th forward on most teams doesn't play more than 10 minutes. And a lot of teams sit him for a 7th D-man at times.

In the long term view, Deslauriers, Laczynski, Allison and Lycksell are all history given their play this season and their age. The later three have a better chance of turning their careers around playing regular shifts in the NHL than 2 shifts a period in the NHL. But so far they haven't done anything to prove they're in the Flyer's future.

The mistake was the contract, as a placeholder and tone setter Deslauriers was fine for a young, undersized team with young players who aren't used to NHL contact. But 2 years at best so it would be easier to move on.

The Flyers now have Matvei as their elite talent. IF he comes over. If.

Without drafting low enough, which they have ensured they won’t by keeping assets…

Where is the elite core coming from?

It’s truly hilarious.
