I think Deslauriers served his purpose, look at the young players early in the season and against Calgary, Calgary played one of the dirtiest games this season, but the kids weren't looking around for help, they stood up for themselves. When Gauthier arrives, Attard comes up, Foerster fills out, etc. this team won't need "enforcers."

You still have to play physical in the NHL, especially in the playoffs, not fighting, but not letting teams roll you, winning board battles, hitting on the forecheck, and taking hits in your D-zone to maintain puck possession. It's partially size and partially 'tude.

Now that contract . . . that's another matter, but easily buried by a team with no cap issues (costs $500K a year).
he served his purpose by not serving a purpose. The other roster players have, and always had, to defend themselves.

At that point, it’s incumbent upon his boss to tell him that his guys are shit, and to get better guys.
I don’t know if Tortorella knows how to coach “better” guys. He can handle the plugs. A serious question is can he coach guys with offensive potential? By the results of the PP, weakness going up the middle of the ice and the general lack of creativity in the offensive end, I’d say not. Playing an unshackled Frost more might help but the Flyers are loaded at center with offensive firepower-Poehling, Laughton, Cates, et al.

How much would Konecny be asking for in an extension? I'm starting to think it makes sense to keep him around.
he's making 5.5 now...probably 9+ if not more ..might be more beneficial trading him depending on who's timeline in terms of rebuild you go by

Especially if he scores 40 this year, he could be seeking double digits. Not that he would get that necessarily, but I could see him asking for it.

(I quoted the wrong post originally)

Disagreements on this team aside, it's good to see you back. Hope everything is okay.

PS, Deslauriers is a waste of cap and roster space.

8 x $9M easily.

However be aware of that his game depends on his (fast) skating. And his skating will go down after 30 years...

Yeah, I still think that trading him for a BIG return is the best option for Philly.

He has no purpose. Protection is fake. It isn't real. Players have to handle themselves and defend themselves. Deslauriers has never and will never protect anyone.

He was signed by a delusional management group to serve a roll that doesn't actually exist in reality.

Brink is very inconsistent right now, sometimes he makes beautiful plays, sometimes he flails around. Rookie struggles, he's undersized, needs to add strength and learn to play with better leverage - he's not Caufield quick, so he'll need to handle traffic. But he's got a good skill set, patience.

What’s crazy is the guy at the top makes even less sense to scratch. What a stubborn coach, the worst.
and Torts is over there like

Remember when Deslauriers "protected" Hathaway from Trouba?

NAK has 11 points in 26 games and is +9. Makes $1.225m.

Deslauriers has 3 points in 38 game and is -7. Makes $1.75m.

Hathaway has 5 points in 39 games and is -9. Makes $2.375m.

Cates has 4 points in 21 games and is -3. Makes $2.625m.

The Flyers get less bang for their buck on the 4th line than most any team in the league.

Even if he can't coach offense, why are his guys also bad at the things he does ostensibly coach well? Competent 4th liners who actually do provide plus defense exist. Get some of those guys.

It wouldn’t even be that hard.
Cates-Poehling-Hathaway would be a legit 4th line but the God Emperor Anus Torts refuses to see that.

Despite that being an area of focus. Hmmm.

But did NAK get a modified NTC with his contract? I bet not.

Actually, I'd go
Farabee - Couts - TK
Tippett - Frost - Brink
Foerster - Cates - Atkinson,
Laughton - Poehling - Hathaway.

Laughton just hasn't looked good at center.
