We don’t have much on which to judge Briere., but it’s dubious to claim he only made the “predictable moves” considering the last GM wasn’t able to make them. He’s been here for a draft and FA period. We will have to see what he is able to do as the deadline gets closer. Whatever the case, one early season game the Flyers lost to an equally bad team isn’t news to get one’s underwear in a twist over. Not for me, at least. This will be a long process regardless of who is steering the ship.

They were definitely dumbfounded when she turned them down.

"Hey we would love for you to come in and be the figurehead for the organization!"

"Sounds great. When can I start? I've got a lot of great id-"

"Wait. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. You'll be taking all your direction from the batted husk of Clarkie still, Sweetie. We just need ya to say what's on the script and tell a good story."

"...I'm...I'm gonna go."

Dude if that’s the case, they are doomed. Although, I am not sure the alternative that Danny doesn’t have power in this scenario is worse or better…

So I went back & listened because I didn’t want to go completely off the top of my head well after the fact of when I initially listened to it.

He starts it out by saying people on the internet are speculating that Briere isn’t in step with what’s going on with this situation & that he needs to step in. He then goes on to say that isn’t the case. He says Briere is fully on board with what Tortorella is doing & he doesn’t think Briere is a big fan of Frost either.

It just doesn’t really make sense though because Briere took baths on the other guys this summer that Tortorella/they didn’t want here. Why is Frost the one exception? How can realistically sit there asking for a noteworthy return for him when he’s been scratched almost more games than he’s played. Do you really want this situation lingering around & potentially getting other players to find sympathy with Frost in turning against Tortorella (which they mentioned as potential possibility)?

Because 46-point season or not, the Flyers didn’t get any good offers for Frost in the summer.

And unlike Hayes & TDA, Frost wasn’t a negative influence they felt they had no choice but to shed.

We may end up with a Briere versus Tortorella power fight on our hands. It’ll be interesting to see which way Jones goes.
I think that DB gives the coach a lot of space. However this Frost thing has gotten out of hand. Unless Frost has done something egregious to merit being benched that we don’t know. Briere has to step in and stop this nonsense.
The club is trending towards bottom four or five in the league. Attendance will crash along with this. When that happens, Torts may be out of here at the end of the season.
Torts will be gone at the end of this season, I think that was Briere’s plan all along. AV’s contract will be paid off at the end of this season and while a few million might not seem like a big deal to Crapcast, big corps don’t like to spend money if it can be avoided.

So far, I’m ambivalent on DB. I’ll have a much better read on him by next June. I need to see assets sold at the deadline, Torts canned, and a non dinosaur HC hired. You got about 8 months Danny, don’t f*** this up.

When it comes to Jones, I pretty much ignore him. He’s being paid to be a mouthpiece/cheerleader and does that job well. He’ll praise Torts right up til the day he’s fired, and then he’ll immediately starting talking about the next HC as if he was the 2nd coming of Fred Shero.

I am not as optimistic as you on Tortorella, Big. The FO has so much invested in him as the true face of the franchise. There will have to be a major blow-up to unseat him, and the impending Frost move won't move the needle. Tortorella doesn't even have any clear objectives to achieve: they're "rebuilding" so losing a lot doesn't matter, he has "played the kids" no matter what comes of them, and there is already the injury excuse for why the team is bad.

My hot take is that Briere will go before Tortorella.

I don't get the impression either than Danny/Jones would talk poorly about Torts in the media at this point. I bet they'll be singing his praises til the day they fire him.
Do you notice that both Briere and Jones seem to always bring up Tortorella in their statements but not vice versa? We have an inverted power structure in the FO.

Yeah, I guess we’ll see. Finishing last in the East and playing to a half empty building by March might lead to everyone getting canned, but I’m not holding my breath.

If Torts told Briere the sky is orange he would believe him. Torts has Briere on a string
ASF also said the Flyers were going to waive Zamula. I'm sure he hears things around the team and some of them will pan out, but that doesn't mean he's getting the scoop direct from Briere.

Charlie said on his podcast the Flyers can’t have it both ways. You can’t talk up your culture, work ethic, etc. than lay an egg against a historically bad team. If you were in SJ’s position clearly playing for a draft pick & sold off most of if not all your best players for trade assets than yeah that’s part of the territory but the Flyers didn’t do that. So you can’t hide behind a rebuild after a loss like that because you set a standard that you’re above bottoming out. So you should be judged by that & it’s a fair criticism from fans even if a loss was most preferable outcome.

He criticized Thompson & the PP as well saying you can’t chalk it up because a lack of talent compared to SJ like you possibly can with other teams as they looked same as they always do with a general lack of sensible clear plan/direction. He doesn’t think Thompson is apart of a solution going forward even if he does last this season.
