Kept all his players?
(14) 1st and 2nd rd picks, Hart, Sanheim, TK, Farabee and Frost are the only ones left.
Other picks, Cates, Ersson, Zamula.

That's 8 players.

Oh so they didn't keep and even re-sign numerous Hextall players after heaping praise on them and treating it as a foundation, one largely still intact? The thing that happened didn't happen?

Who did Briere resign other than RFAs on bridge deals?

Well, with 14 picks in the first two rounds, you ought to add some talent.

I mean Fletcher traded away a draft's worth of first three picks and still ended up with York, Brink, Foerster, Andrae, Gauthier, Kolosov in 4 years.

Now check back in 5 years since that's how long Hextall has been gone, and let's see how many are still here. And see how many are the top guys in their positions.

And is Fletch trading away all those picks a good thing? Especially since he had worse on ice results than Hextall.

Fletch in Philly: 81 pt pace
Hextall in Philly: 91 pt pace

Since Cates is almost getting as little ES ice time as Deslauriers, maybe Torts will make a smart move by putting Cates at 4LW to find his game again. He'd fit right in with the other zero pointers.

I have a feeling frost is going to be scratched again.

Is it that complicated to play cates in dlos spot and put frost back in
Nope. And it's not complicated to try other ideas either.

I feel confident Frost will play again and get a chance to redeem himself of whatever faults were noticed. And that his leash will be long given his youth and contract.

I also feel confident the 4th line will eventually get broken apart. Not sure it is Cates that is the right wedge to break apart that gross trio. But someone will eventually do it, who is younger and in the future plans more. And dlos should be odd manout.

I can't believe people are still arguing about Hextall and NAK in 2023

I’m still ready to argue about Jeff Carter.

You can’t? Come on man lol
This board has a massive interest in failure nostalgia, and re-wallowing in same old, same old. No thread is immune. In fact...it is literally embedded in the DNA of new threads too, even GDTs. Might be off-putting for new fans I dare say, but it's the reality. People that want to post post.

If Couturier and Cam are back, which trade(s) might we see?

Frost (maybe around Pinto)

Laughton for 1rst + if rumored true

TK or Cam retained at deadline?

Really one early season and one at the deadline should be the bare minimum. Will it only be Frost because emperor Torts?

The only way Frost is getting used will be when John decides to put the toilet seat down to take a shit.

Wouldn't bet on the 4th line getting broken apart if none of them get injured

They've played 4 games, "the future's uncertain and the end is always near."

Right now, the only thing we know with any certainty is that Brink has a top 9 spot and it's his to lose.
Zamula is ahead of Andrae but both are still fighting for the 3LHD job.
The lines are still being shuffled.

Trades? Some will happen, but who? where? when? depends on a lot of factors, the most important is probably who gets injured around the league and which teams need cap room.

My Jeff Carter takes are overwhelmingly positive. People lost their minds because he missed a puck that one time.

I've been told that big, fast centers who shoot too much are "fails."

I believe my official position on player archetypes is that we care way too much about them, so I’ll assume that’s not me.

I can’t imagine me ever calling a draft pick that finished 2nd in the league in Goals behind only an Ovechkin level Goal scorer a bad outcome. A weird corner case where Toronto went Laine over Matthews is the only scenario where I can even imagine it.
