Now I see why they kept Laughton. He’ll still be 30 when the rebuild is officially done. You need support players. And support players for your support players. And support players as Healthy Scratches to make sure you always have enough support players. When Michkov comes over, I personally hope they send him out for his first Shift with 7 Forwards who Do The Dirty Work and 4 Defensemen who can Cover His Ass.
Laughton will fill the Veteran Role perfectly at age 34, on year 2 of his 5x5 extension. He is everything to Michkov's development. I heard he's already scheming a defecting plan. What a Leader. He really Has What It Takes. Born To Be A Flyer.

I can't break up my reply properly on a phone, so I'll just say that Tanner was a counter example you chose when talking about young players being blocked, so he doesn't fit with the "fails in the playoffs" mold of reasoning you're bringing up here (zero playoff games played), though admittedly that might be your point.

As for the Cassidy stuff, it's clear to me you think mistreating young players is a feature, not a bug. Fine, whatever. I disagree. Just don't make me read how all the players love Torts again, for the love of god.
Those "young" players in Boston in 2021-22:
DeBrusk (25), 5th season
MacAvoy (24), 5th season
Pastrnak (25), 8th season
Federic (23), 2nd season
Lazar (26), 8th season
Swayman (23) goalie

The other young players after he left were traded or never got out of the AHL last season.

Cassidy's shtick may have worn off, but the "mishandling" of young players is a red herring.

That's literally the reason the players gave for ousting Cassidy.

I would watch a movie where Scott Laughton infiltrates Putin's inner circle and demands Michkov's release. Of course Putin says no, so Laughton pulls out his secret weapon:

Michkov is immediately freed, scores 69 Goals on the flight home, and Russia replaces Putin with Socrates.

Beef would hate that Socrates idea. His ideal is a Trotsky facsimile; I would settle for a Jacobin......."off with their heads"........oops......poor Robespierre

Couts survived the first day of camp, a good sign!

Unsurprisingly, Couturier hits camp raring to go. He packed on a few extra pounds of muscle to better stand up to the pounding he expects to receive, and he wants to play in as many preseason games as the organization will let him, just to be sure he’s ready both physically and mentally for Game 1. But most of all, he wants to prove to everyone — himself included — that he can be the player he once was.

From 2017-18 (his breakout offensive season) through 2020-21, Couturier finished in a tie for 29th in points scored (252) by NHL forwards. And he racked up all those points despite constantly taking on the toughest assignments that the Flyers faced, earning a Selke Trophy in 2020 for his efforts.

Per Evolving-Hockey’s public Wins Above Replacement model, Couturier ranked fourth in the league among all skaters over that four-year span, trailing only Connor McDavid, Brayden Point and Mark Stone. Couturier ranked in the 96th percentile during that same timeframe, in terms of his impact on his club’s expected goal differential.

1. Tortorella let slip an interesting aside about Marc Staal on Thursday, who he envisions playing a big role for the rebuilding Flyers. But his “big role” doesn’t necessarily include an every-night lineup guarantee. In fact, it’s apparently the opposite.

“As I stated to him, he’s not going to get in the way of the kids, of us developing the kids. There’s going to be some nights he’s not going to play,” Tortorella bluntly stated.

“The team’s probably going to be younger, just as you look at the layout,” he said. “Especially our back end, that is definitely young. We’re gonna have some horror shows at night in certain games, with our young back end. But we’re going to work with them, we’re going to live with through some of the mistakes and see what we have there.”

4. When asked if he planned to approach this season any differently than he had last year — given the fact that this year, the organization has openly acknowledged that they’re rebuilding — Tortorella provided an interesting answer.

“See, in my mind, we were rebuilding last year,” he responded. “I don’t care what we said, what was allowed to be said, or whatever. In my mind, we were rebuilding. I’m going to the second step of this here.”

This is what I've been saying. They keep him because they think they're going to be competing very, very soon. They think he has value in the very near future. They are too insane to realize that isn't true, and his best value to the team is in a swap for a future asset.

Their actions and approach match their insane words. They aren't just saying that stuff to soothe the fanbase. They're not bullshitting. They actually believe it.

Fun fact, I'm actually glad Trotsky got ice axed. That dude sucked ass. My Beefshevik thing is schtick.

Robespierre is hilarious to me though. One of the Frenchest episodes in French history. Five stars.

The best thing about Trotsky was that he wasn't Stalin - and Frida Kahlo was a bad ass.

Surprised they didn't just get Deslauriers and Gritty to unveil the jerseys
"When you've held onto as many jerseys of opponents you are swinging a fist at as I have, you get to know quality."

Ninja (Chris Farley variety) edit to insert "as I have" for clarity. @deadhead, if you want to rescind your 'Like', I humbly accept.

ASF on the Shane Pinto rumors:

- The Flyers are willing to take on a contract from Ottawa so they can re-sign Pinto, Ottawa just has to pay for it. The name that keeps coming up is Mathieu Joseph. There is a player in the Ottawa system that the Flyers want in return for taking on Joseph, but Ottawa would prefer a pick.

- He clarifies that there are a number of loopholes/paper transactions that would allow the Flyers to fit Joseph under the cap

Briere's heart is in the right place, but in a vacuum I'd rather have a pick.

So it's Pinto + Joseph + prospect/pick for nothing?

No, Pinto would be staying in Ottawa.

I can't remember what, if anything, ASF said the Flyers would be sending back.

Joseph is completely pointless on this team. This team is stacked to shit with forwards that can play this year, so I don't get it...

The point isn't to add Joseph. The point is to add the pick/prospect.
