The way we've ramped it up and flipped the switch down the stretch should translate to us getting steamrolled 3-0 in the 1st pd. of gm1; after that I think Caps get it together and TCB

I look forward to Willy/OV et al to give Demidov a proper "welcome"

I want to be excited, but I'm more nervous than anything.

Haven't won a round since 2018.

Hopefully this is the new era Caps.
I'm of two minds in terms of nerves. On the one hand, this year feels as though it could be our last best chance to win a second Stanley Cup in the Ovechkin era. On the other hand, I had mentally accepted that we were done for this era after the 22-23 season. Merely making the playoffs last year was incredible after watching the team decline and then lose Backstrom. And then this year has been honestly one of my favorite seasons to follow the team since the Ovechkin era started, probably only surpassed by 07-08 (despite the ending) and 17-18.

There's also some good bulletin board material out there, if the players feed off that sort of thing. Moneypuck has the Caps cup odds at 9th (tied with LAK). Vegas odds largely agree, though it depends on the specific sports book. ESPN bet has us 9th. And that's despite winning the East and finishing 2nd in the NHL in points.

Final thought - it also feels a lot better, even in a somewhat nervous year, post 17-18. My playoff anxiety was off the charts back then compared to what it is now.

Is a rusty goalie not a risk?
yes it most certainly is. i'm thinking the calculus is rusty goalie vs injured goalie who misses the entire playoff run.

coaching staff likely has the same thought we do that Montreal is a favorable matchup and its worth the risk.

plus, throw a bone to stevenson. he might be backup goalie at some point in playoffs.
