"Multiple sources" or one source repeated multiple times. With no details (remember the screaming over the Provorov deal over initial reports, then all the details became available).Multiple sources have said the flyers were offered offered 1st+2nd.....with not one mentioning taking back a big cap dump. You are fabricating that to justify a deal not getting done. It's what you do. Defend everything!

When an offer sounds too good to be true, it's probably isn't.
I just doubt St Louis giving that much for Laughton, given their cap situation, giving a 1st and 2nd and taking on $3M of cap room is unlikely.
With Hayes, they retained the high picks, and retained some flexibility to use a draft pick in a deal to clear some cap room (they only have $300K head room).
I'll give some of you (especially you in particular) credit for not going nuts at the first mention of the Provorov trade, there are a few sensible people on this board, but also a lot who engage in knee jerk reactions. Please give some of us the tiniest bit of credit in being able to differentiate between trade details leaking out over an hour and an extremely credible reporter going on the record with an offer. They're not the same thing and you understand exactly why.
Not everyone was going nuts at the first mention of the Provorov trade.

Going on record with an offer is not the same as a detailed description of the entire deal.
When I see something that seems a little too good to be true, my skepticism sets in.
With Couts and Atkinson returning, and the addition of Hathaway (who is better than I realized, scores at a middle six rate, good metrics, good forechecker), I can't see them desperately holding on to Laughton. They may like him, but not THAT much if that offer was true.
My suspicion is there was more to the deal than say #29 and Toronto's 2024 2nd.
It would be more credible if it wasn't St Louis, as I've pointed out, they are weighed down by 3-4 year veteran contracts to players over 30.Hathaway is a very good 4th liner. I distinctly remember praising Boston for getting him as the 2nd guy in the Orlov deal.
What I would say to the rest of it is that you've maintained all along that culture and vet presence is important. And while I don't agree to the degree you do, the Flyers do as evidenced by giving term to guys like Deslauriers and Hathaway. Given that scope, them valuing Laughton highly as a shepherd feels not just on brand to me, but so much so that I'm surprised you don't agree.
I would also point out that Laughton's AAV is low enough that more teams can fit him easily, Flyers included. I don't personally buy into the idea that he would get a Tampa bump because no one else so far has been willing to pay it. But it's there and it's a possibility. I can't say I know.

So it's hard to imagine them throwing away high draft picks without cap relief that would give them flexibility to compete now.
I expect them to make a deal in the next few weeks to clear a contract, using one of those picks as a sweetener.
You can't go into a season with $300K cap room - that totally ties your hands.
They're learning.

Laughton isn't American and Tortorella probably thinks that Farabee is too soft to represent America.Im shocked Scott Laughton wasnt photoshopped into this
A Turk once told me that God created three scourges to ruin the earth-earthquakes fires and Arabs.People complain about the Saudis using their money to sportwash, but it's better than them using it to pay for flying lessons that don't include how to land.
Cal Petersen's shorts tho?Laughton isn't American and Tortorella probably thinks that Farabee is too soft to represent America.
Good work not replacing the moon with Torts' face.Im shocked Scott Laughton wasnt photoshopped into this
Not the optimal solution, but it's better than JJ being a one man booth when Boosh is doing national games."Primary analyst" leaves open the possibility of some guest appearances by Jones
He seems like the sort who would get American citizenship eventually. Hmm, I always assumed Allison was American cause he came up thru the USHL and Omaha, but he's Canadian.Laughton isn't American and Tortorella probably thinks that Farabee is too soft to represent America.
The real issue is that it was reported that Giroux only wanted to go to FLA because CF wouldn't tell Giroux that he would be resigned over the off season. I CF did his job correctly you tell the guy you will resign him, trade him to COL, get a bigger return, and then get Giroux back on team friendly deal. and if then Giroux decides hes done with the Flyers than you already maximized his trade value by not being limited to trading him to only FLAPeople are complaining about the G trade? We got a 1st, 3rd and a 23 year old forward who scored 27 goals.
It's called "rebuilding." It was the right move to make and a good return (and helped the Flyers finish low enough to garner Michkov).
That's separate from bad decision making regarding Sanheim, Risto and TDA.
The rebuild should have started with that trade.
Problem was what did Giroux mean by "resigning."The real issue is that it was reported that Giroux only wanted to go to FLA because CF wouldn't tell Giroux that he would be resigned over the off season. Right now he's signed for 6.5AAV, if he were to sign a sweetheart deal at what 4.5-5AAV is that unreasonable for 3 years? I think there was more value in leaving resigning as a real possibility and maximizing your most valuable trade asset, than closing the door on someone who's jersey number is more than likely going to hang in the rafters, and having your hands tied on where you can move the guy.Problem was what did Giroux mean by "resigning."
A deal to finish his career would be a 3 year or longer with a NTC.
Doubt G meant to resign to a one year deal with no trade protection.
First, we got a better deal from Florida than Colorado would have offered, in hindsight. Barron, etc haven't done much, Tippett had 27 goals.Right now he's signed for 6.5AAV, if he were to sign a sweetheart deal at what 4.5-5AAV is that unreasonable for 3 years?
