People are complaining about the G trade? We got a 1st, 3rd and a 23 year old forward who scored 27 goals.
It's called "rebuilding." It was the right move to make and a good return (and helped the Flyers finish low enough to garner Michkov).

That's separate from bad decision making regarding Sanheim, Risto and TDA.
The rebuild should have started with that trade.

They aren't rebuilding. It wasn't a good return. They didn't plan on finishing low enough to garner Michkov.

Oh shit, someone unleashed their burner!

Also, imagine saying that the rebuild should have started with the Giroux trade, then say they ARE rebuilding now, but then defend not trading 3rd liner Laughton for a 1st+2nd.

Gotta defend!
We don't know what was actually offered, Given that St Louis was desperate to unload Krug and his 4x$6.5M deal (Or Leddy and his 3x$4M deal) it's more likely that the proposed trade included a major salary dump - and as we saw, all those big salaries came with NTCs.

It's doubtful St Louis was trading a 1st and 2nd without dumping a major salary, since they're going to need low cost young talent the next four seasons to remain competitive, given they're going to be cap strapped for the indefinite future.

The Blues didn't have a second round pick in this draft so if the Flyers wanted a second, it would have to come in the '24 draft. The best that the Blues could offer in '23 was selection 25 or 29. Perhaps the Flyers would have accepted both of those picks for Laughton but the Blues probably would have turned down that. 25 or 29 plus the Blues' third rounder, #74, isn't enough for Laughton. Briere will do better for him at another point and time.

That's more than enough for Laughton, especially when a team is rebuilding

A 1st and 3rd would be a fine return for Laughton, but I doubt that was the whole offer.

St Louis was desperate to shed salary, the Sanheim deal was a 1st for taking on Krug's 4 year deal, the reason that was attractive to St. Louis was they'd replace a 32 year old D-man with a 27 year old with the same cap hit, which meant they actually valued Sanheim at a 2nd or 3rd rd level with that contract. By the 5th year of Sanheim's deal, they'd have dumped all their veteran salaries other than Parayko, with a rising cap.

Instead of Laughton or Sanheim, they added Hayes for the same cap hit as Laughton, and only paid a 6th rd pick. That means they have the drafts picks to pay for a salary dump if needed.

Multiple sources have said the flyers were offered offered 1st+2nd.....with not one mentioning taking back a big cap dump. You are fabricating that to justify a deal not getting done. It's what you do. Defend everything!
