Not that this isn't a waste of time anyway, but any D core that doesn't include 2 of Zamula, Andrae, and Attard is a complete waste of time.

Walker and/or Seeler should be flipped as soon as someone else has an injury in training camp or pre-season.

Staal should be 7th D.
Zamula and Attard will probably be sheltered initially, and given more PT if they show they can handle it.

Walker is going to play a lot of minutes, you're not playing York with Attard to start the season, maybe if Attard looks more reliable, but do you want to put that much pressure on York? Give him a veteran partner to start the season (Walker) and let him get comfortable in a bigger role.

Frost is a guy you definitely bridge. There's upside there still absolutely but I don't know that a five or six million dollar contract doesn't look horrendous in five years either

York - Walker
Sanheim - Risto
Seeler/Staal - Zamula/Attard

Staal played 82 games at 18:12 for the Panthers, but he's going to come play in Philly for Torts and end up as the #6/7 behind rookies and Sean Walker who played 70 games at 14:50 for the Kings.

With the cap going up in the next 5 years (potentially a lot), I'd rather be signing him for term under this cap environment instead of bridging him into a higher one.

Seeler will sit as the #7 guy just like he did last year.

:dunce:
Gotta love the very realistic prediction of Seeler and Staal being bracketed on the third pairing with Zamula and Attard when Staal was a top 4 dman on a playoff team last season and played for Torts in NY, while Seeler played 77 games for Torts last season with Zamula and Attard ready & available.

Staal is going to be a top pair D for this team. My guess is we see something like:

Staal-Walker
Sanheim-Risto
York-Seeler
Zamula-Attard

Torts solution to playing "the young D" will be routinley dressing 7 D, with Zamula and Attard rotating in.

We will see this until about March when "theyre officially eliminated" and Walker or Staal are traded.

From October-March we will be lectured on how Zamula and Attard arent playing bc they havent beaten out the Vets...even though the vets have been terrible. Andrea...will not make the team despite looking NHL ready and we will be lectured about needing "seasoning" and "bulking up".

And if you think this take is dramatic...this time last year I said york would start in LV and was laughed at.

Always a fun time in the off-season when we see lineups with the kids in it. To which we respond saying that that’s never going to happen because that’s not how this organization works. We go around and around about how the Coach is a genius (Hakstol, AV, Torts) and he’s totally going to do it.

Then the season comes and none of the things that were supposed to happen happen and we inevitably get told that if they couldn’t beat out the shitty vets then they didn’t deserve to play.

Rinse and repeat for years on end.

"He had a bad practice in the summer once, so he just had to miss half the season in favor of a league-bottom pending retiree"

Deslauriers and Seeler are pretty much it, and I won't be surprised if Deslauriers sits a bit if some young players step up.

Farabee - Couts - TK
Tippett - Frost - Atkinson
Laughton - Cates - Foerster
Deslauriers - Poehling - Hathaway
Lycksell, Allison, Laczynski, Desnoyers, Brink (3 start the season in LHV)

York - Walker
Sanheim - Risto
Seeler/Staal - Zamula/Attard
(Grans, Ginning, Samson at LHV)

Hart/Ersson

The key issues are health, Couts and Atkinson of course, but Walker is now 2 years form an ACL injury, was a solid 3RHD last season and if he raises his game and is a passable top 4 D-man, could be major trade bait at the TDL if the Flyers are out of the PO race.

It's actually not an awful lineup if Couts and Atkinson rebound, with Gauthier, Andrae, Bonk, Kaplan, and Michkov already in the wings.

To be a SC contender they need to be a consistent 100 point team. The offense just has to be top ten or so if they improve the defense and the goalie pipeline keeps delivering, Solid but not great offense is enough with good defense and top goalie play. Which means the focus the next couple years, given the forwards and goalies in the pipeline, should be to upgrade the defense.
I thought so too.

This defense need a lot of in season experiences and they need to focus on the development instead of results.

I'm happy that's couturier will be back.

If Elis was healthy this discution would had never happened about this inexperienced defense. He would have brought the young ones to another level.

As for the attackers. You starting to feel what it be like to have a group that will compete every night.

Morgan Frost will be a solid second center if he can stay healthy and continue to develop.

My only concern is in two years, they'll needs to pay the young stars. They'll probably make some mistakes and overpay or try too quickly to advance their rebuild plans. overpay some young guys that don't deserve it.
