Yep, the team that wanted to sign him ACTUALLY wanted him to go back to college.

7D chess.
Gauthier expressed the desire to go pro after one season on draft day and in November.

Had the Flyers wanted him to turn pro, a full court press would probably have worked on him.
But it's in their interest to go with Couts, Frost, Cates, Poehling, Desnoyers this season, and see how they look.
Next season, Gauthier or Cates could move to LW, Avon could push Desnoyers at 4C, etc.
But giving Gauthier a full season at center with better talent can only make him more valuable to the Flyers down the road.

"Bringing in" Briere and Jones???? They already worked here!!!

Nothing is different. This is the same Flyers it's always been. I can't believe you're falling for this. It's almost all exclusively internal promoting and cronyism as always.
No, the Culture is totally different! The team's broadcaster is now their president! And the coach is still here! And the assistant GM! And the special assistant to the GM was promoted! And all the scouts are still here! And the senior advisers!

New culture!

I like how every media story seems to gloss over the "NCAA rules would have also required him to pay his own way," angle.
I don’t blame him for declining. Even if he paid his own way if he didn’t check every box off with the NCAA it would become a issue. The media not knowing this is one of the least shocking things ever.

Fear not, they brought in Sharp and LeClair, who combine for zero years of management, scouting, or coaching experience

In the span of just a couple days, two 24yo C's have signed contracts worth 1.6 and 2.1 mill (McBain, McLeod). They both scored around 20 pts. Frederic is another former C in that same age group who just signed a similar contract, although he was primarily used as a wing this past year.

With this in mind, I'd say the Cates deal was a steal for the team and that Frost is easily worth somewhere around 3-4 mill currently. Yet even with all the projected cap they have with Ellis on foreverIR, they still haven't reached an agreement. Is Danny trying to low-ball him into a 2.5 mill contract or is Frost already asking for the moon, knowing he'll probably improve his numbers in the coming years? Any reason to believe he won't be with the team on opening night?

Man, going through the roster again, it's f***ing baffling how many RWers we have. f***ing stupid how many we have... and yet we won't trade anyone?

I have been saying this for months.

They need to move TK and Laughton and pray Atkinson can be dealt.

I know in theory TK/Tipp can move to Left Wing, but that really doesn't help much when you still have Laughton.

Considering the cap is supposed to go up quite a bit in the next couple seasons, I'd even say to eat the price of Atkinson for 2 years at 50%. He should be desirable like that, but we know Torts will f*** over this team in any way he can...

Pretty thin lineup without those 3, and you'd still have at least one right handed LW.

Farabee-Couturier-Tippett
Hathaway-Cates-Foerster
Lycksell-Frost-Brink
Deslauriers-Poehling-Allison/Laczynski

You can't trade Atkinson until next summer, and he'll be a tough move at the TDL with another season on his contract.
Much easier next summer if he has a good season.
