pres of hockey ops wont have much say in the players, but he'll be the guy that can bring in more strength and conditioning guys or training staff and those type of decisions
um ur wrong..

hes gunna be the YES man for Torts..

if Torts wants a certain type of player (which he DOES), then Jones will be all over Brieres ear about how the team needs that player..

Is Michkov Torts’ type of player? I doubt it. Torts has never had a player with MM’s skill set. He wouldn’t know how to use him.
Now is MM Briere’s type of player? I believe so. This leads me to believe that Briere is the guy with the final say in the organization. Jones and Tortorella have titles but DB ultimately has the power over them.

Oh, I'm sure they are.
i dont see briere adding any significant help in the next couple years, theres contracts expiring and roster spots opening up in 2025, I think we'll be sellers at the deadline in 2024 but it might not be for any of the core players. In the super highly unlikely event we make the playoffs I still dont think we make moves to add players but we might not be sellers at that point. Briere knows we have to have another strong draft or two, but theres ways to be in a good draft position without obvious tanking

There seems to be a big disconnect between how Flyers fans see Cates and how the national media/analysts see Cates. They have a higher opinion than us.

OK but I'd urge you to also consider everything else they did. Michkov is an outlier.

The majority of Flyers fans like Cates. The issue is that we recognize that he’s not the player that the Flyers believe that he is. We dislike the usage of the player rather than the player itself.

heres an interview with the Ass. GM talking about how important top 3 picks are in drafts when youre rebuilding, so theyre definitely talking about tanking

So without tanking or even trading core -- ie, high-value -- players for 1st-round picks? Do tell.

trade up at the draft? we have enough picks and prospects to put together a package that doesnt include core members and wouldnt be tanking. if we're outside the top 5 maybe we can jump a few spots, you never know. but trades dont have to include core players. it doesnt happen often but I expect danny to use his imagination

What makes you think the Flyers have an exaggerated opinion of Cates?
Sure he was 2b to Frosts' 2a last year, but why would you play Hayes ahead of either one if you're rebuilding?
And rebuilding teams do things like try a player like Cates at center, at worst, makes him more valuable when they add more talented centers.

I mean the alternatives at center were Laughton (tried), and ??? (Sedlak, Brown, Laczynski)

They used him as 1C for a large chunk of the year.
