Jake had one of the worst shots in the league. At one point he had an approx. 80 game stretch for us with, I believe, a single 5v5 goal.
That seems hard to believe given these stats. He also shot at 9.2% as a Flyer, which is similar to Laughton and includes a lot of PP shots which were designed to generate rebounds.

11-12: 18 ESG in 78 GP
12-13: 14 ESG in 48 GP (most on the team)
13-14: 15 ESG in 82 GP
14-15: 11 ESG in 82 GP
15-16: 10 ESG in 73 GP
16-17: 15 ESG in 82 GP (most on the team)
17-18: 15 ESG in 82 GP
18-19: 16 ESG in 78 GP
19-20: 8 ESG in 69 GP
20-21: 9 ESG in 53 GP

Voracek also has the 2nd most SO goals in Flyers history, and a better SO% than Giroux. But I'm sure the likes of Foerster and Gauthier are gonna blow his stats out of the water. :snide:

Not off his entries, his MO was to skate around the offensive zone, hope the defenders would get out of position, then hit someone with a pass (b/c he couldn't shot to save his life the second half of his career, which was a bit odd given he was ok the first half). Jake was a better passer on the PP I think b/c he could stand there, survey the ice, then when a pass came to him he had identified his target and made quick, accurate passes.

This is a lunatic criticism

Jake Voracek was notorious for not passing.

I have been slain.

For those that don't know, the setting is basically how likely someone was able to setup a shot.

This is a lunatic criticism

"The guy was good at some aspect of hockey play (passing) when being given opportunity in the right context (PP). Other than that he just hoped defenders would get out of the way"

Also describing one of the highest scoring RWs in the history of the Czech republic and ummm also in the history of the Philadelphia Flyers

AIR, when Jake was drafted the question was if he was a wing or a center. His passing was good enough for center ice but his shot lagged in quality. That also became an issue with him on the ring. When placed in the right situation, like playing with Giroux where they could work with each other passing back and forth to open up shooting lanes, his assets could be rewarded. However when playing with another center, such as Hayes, a shoot all the time and never pass guy, the results were less desirable.

2017-2020:
Voracek was 10th in PP primary assists/60.
22nd in 5x5 primary assists/60.

I'd be curious how many of his assists came off entry passes and how many off passes after he entered and held the puck.

Jake Voracek, from January 27th, 2015 through to end of season (1 ES goal in 34gp) up until December 14th, 2015 in the following season (1 ES goal in the opening 30gp, only goal at all actually):

So, 2 ES goals in a 64 game stretch, corrected from 1 ES goal in 80 game stretch guestimate.
-5 total goals, including a 41 game stretch with 2 total goals.

He was a 1st Team NHL All-Star in 14-15, he had 81 points. And had 44 Assists the following year, where he had by far the lowest S% in his career as a Flyer. During the stretch you cherrypicked his Corsi and Fenwick were career highs. He was shooting more in that stretch than he basically ever has. Guy is, was and always has been a pure playmaker, but let's not pretend he wasn't productive or that his shot was terrible either.

From 2012-2016 (23-26 years old) Voracek was close to elite, 1st pair wing.
Off season in 2016-17, 1.38 pp/60, xGFrel -3.62.
From 2017-2020 (28-30) he played at a 2nd line level, basically his defense went from above to a bit below average (except one season with AV)
2021-2022 (31-32) he played at a 2nd/3rd line level, he became a liability at 5x5, he could still score, but xGFrel of -3.67 and -2.37.

His decline was similar to JVR and Hayes, started at a higher level, but same general trajectory.
