Absolutely the right statement for Hart or any other player on this team.
I like Hart, I like Sanheim, I love TK, and so on… however they need as many picks and young prospects as humanly possible since all of these players will be out of their primes when this team has a >0% chance to compete and they need to suck badly in the next few years to hopefully get a franchise player at the top of the draft.

Plus, all those guys deserve better than playing in a dumpster fire org for a despicable head coach.

Your buddy Chuck got fired in no small part because the PP went to absolute shit after Jake left. Dead last in the NHL, behind even tanking teams.

In case you forgot, the guy Fletcher traded for him missed the entire season after neck surgery and still has two years left at $5.875m at age 34.

Yes, his rebound in CBJ gave Fletcher buyer's regret. :sarcasm:
Who knows if Jake would have been traded if AV was not the coach. The two locked horns and AV wanted him gone and Jake wanted away from Vigneault. A bad coach made a tough situation even worse. The same was true of Ghost and AV. The damage to the franchise that Vigneault caused is still resonating.

I wonder where Ghost lands this summer. I can't see him stay with Carolina. He was pretty disappointing for them.
I just looked at his career playoff record and he's been really underwhelming in the post-season. 8 points in 32 games, for an offensive defenseman that's not good enough.

Blackhawks have 2 more 1rst round picks than the Flyers the next three drafts, 7 more 2nd round picks (!) and 1 more 3rd. If the Flyers sell their players with actually value, they can almost catch up, of course without Bedard!

*sees Ghost led the Canes in relxGF% in the playoffs*

*contemplates*
Sees Ghost was used in a sheltered role like Seeler, so Ghost's metrics should be put in context like Seeler's xGFrel +4.65.
Ghost will have a market as a 3rd pair guy who is a PP QB. Maybe 2yr/$6M?

Look at that contextless cherrypicking. And the double standard! Ghost gets massive blame for terrible coaching and usage with the Flyers, but also gets slammed for having good coaching and usage in Carolina.

Ghost was flat-out better than Seeler and it takes willful dishonesty to watch the two of them and determine anything else. That's one situation where the eye test alone is definitive without getting into the weeds. Seeler had to be limited to the 3rd pair and sheltered on a terrible defense. Ghost was in that role on a fantastic defense. They aren't even comparable, really. Seeler wouldn't have played a single game for Carolina last year or this year.

I made a bet w/ someone on here that Ghost’s next contract will be a pay cut. Can’t see him getting $4.5M on the open market. Maybe I’ll be wrong.

Is there a comparable trade to determine a good return for Hart?

Im on the "for the right price" train...but im not really sure what that price is.

Lehner at 24 was traded for a 1st after starting 2 years, .913, .905.
Kuemper at 31 with one year left on his contract for 2022 1st, 2024 3rd and Timmins (2nd rd pick)
Varlamov at 22 after 23, 25 starts, .909, .924 for 2012 1st, 2012 2nd
Andersen at 26 after .914, .919 for 2016 1st, 2017 2nd
Talbot at 27 after 19, 34 starts, .941, .926 for 2015 2nd, 2015 3rd

Goalies who've shown they can handle a starter's workload get premium return, backups are discounted due to risk they may not perform as well as starters.
Probably would garner a 1st and 2nd or 1st and "B+" prospect.

Cory Schneider got traded for 9th overall (Bo Horvat) straight up 10 years ago.

Fun fact, Cory Schneider is still playing - in the AHL.

Yeah, super disappointing. That’s why their fans want him back.

I’m sure Lorne here has a better read on Ghosts performance than they do, especially since he was so good at evaluating him back when he was in Philly.

And that 8 points in 32 games is pretty damning evidence. Defensemen playing on the third pair typically rack up tons of points, so it’s extremely telling that he didn’t. We can just ignore all context, plus both the eye test and analytics.
