Weird that all the people who are the biggest Tippett fans seem to be the most critical of Frost, who is obviously the better player.

I wonder if size stereotypes and team propaganda have anything to do with it.

Don’t take too personal young buck, but I chuckle when we are out here getting excited over our Corrola’s when other teams manage to find Ferraris once in a while.

Wonder bread franchise.

Trust me, I'm one of the people least excited over the youth of this team. Cates, Tippett, York... so many people think they're a part of our future contending core but I'm not the slightest bit impressed with any of them.

It's just that relative to each other, Frost is the clear standout. I don't expect him to be a star, but he's definitely the best kid on this roster right now and is the exact playstyle we need most desperately since Giroux is gone.

Frost has improved significantly, he's not going to be physical on defense, and Torts doesn't expect that, he wants Frost to back check and get in position and stick check and break up plays. It's really a matter of improving his ice awareness, don't get caught up in the offensive action to the point that you get caught deep and can't get back - and some of this is a team issue - you have to be aware of who is deep on the cycle and CYA for them. However, for Torts, at least adequate defense is a must for centers (his system doesn't put as much stress defensively on wings), which is what got Hayes in trouble.

i honesty havent looked at advanced stats, i like frost alot but there seemed like times he just got caught out of position so wanted to know what you guys thought. i read tippett has a really good takeaway/giveaway ratio which is probably why torts is so big on him if hes not putting as much responsibility on the wings. i'd like to see both take another step this year, but im one of the guys who thinks tippett still has tons of upside lol

Nope, he’s actually good defensively.

This is one of those silly stereotypes I mentioned.
this is where the stats are important I guess, trying to seperate the good from the bad when the whole team looks like a shit took backwards

They do need playmakers. Guys strong in transition as a priority.

That’s the biggest hole, and has been since Giroux started to decline a little - along with Jake.

It’s why I was personally a fan of Moore in this draft. I think Frost has that to his game for sure. He would be smart to sign a short term deal, and ask out if Torts dicks around with him again.

would be a super good trade chip at the deadline the next couple seasons if hes shorter term too. im hoping frost stays but he might already want out and we just havent heard about it he seemed to perform well the last half of the season either way but torts sandbagged him pretty hard with the toilet seat stuff. also maybe management wants to frost to shave his moustache and hes still thinking about it

I think York can be a great #3, and a good #2. He had nice stretches last year. Not a #1 dman, but he can be a vital piece.

Tippett can be a 25-25 guy on a good team. I imagine he'll be a 30-25 on this team. I hope his shooting % doesn't regress.

Cates I'm not sure about, but is pretty well thought of around the league. 24 years old.

I hope Frost is given every chance to succeed by Torts this year - can easily get up to that 55-65 point mark if Torts gives him some leash. This is where Danny and Jones needs step in and tell Torts to chill out.

I think there's some hope with these 4. Do I think the coaching staff will probably ruin everything and prevent the proper development? Yeah lol

Sure. It’s not that I think they’re useless, but I wouldn’t call those “core players”.

For the record, I wouldn’t say Frost is currently a core player either. I’d save that label for guys like Giroux, Voracek, Konecny, Couturier, and other star/borderline-star guys that you’d build the team around.

Considering they are at least 5 years away from contention, I’d make the argument that they have zero core players right now. At this point, other than prospects and kids on ELCs, every single player on the roster should be available in the right deal.

The core is Michkov
Yeah, pretty much. I do think though, that if they’d just let him play wing, Gauthier has 1LW potential and that Foerster has a shot to be the 2nd line RW.

The lack of any top pair D or top 6 centers in the system is a huge hole. The only bigger hole in the organization is the head coach.

Yeah that’s 100% fair. Hopefully they keep getting better and we hit on Gauthier, Michkov, 2024 high 1, and 2025 high 1.
