Did CF tell Torts to play Seeler?
Seeler was signed as depth, to play for the Phantoms and be available for an injury call-up. These kinds of signings are normal in the NHL.
He earned his job, he wasn't given it.
Uh, he literally was given the job when he re-signed. You can say that he was signed to play for the Phantoms but as we saw and as we told you at the time that was never the case.

Seeler was one of the first players that Tortorella talked about when he got here (along with Deslauriers).

Seeler was also here before Tortorella so he doesn't really matter in the equation.

Sounds like the perfect guy to sell. And the hate isn't for Seeler, it's for management that hugely overvalues him to the point where they don't realize he's a perfect sale piece.
yes should have moved him 100% at the deadline. Seems like some of the hate is at seeler.

Naw...simple math.

Rebuilding team
Upcoming UFA
Sanheim and York as top 2 LHD
Zamula has to clear waivers, so play him on 3rd pairing
don't disagree.

That being said Seeler earned his spot in the lineup and performed it well. That is all I am saying, some want to just knock him it seems. If you cant beat out Seller how good are you?

Will Zamula be healthy come camp time?

And what season do you make it to the finish line playing 12 forwards and 6 D-men?
Ginning, Grans, Attard, Andrae may make the team in camp, or get sent down to LHV and get recalled for injuries or come spring.

I move Seeler (as he has value, cash in on it) and Tony D to open up 2 spots and roll with the internal guys. Some combo of below (that is ugly as can be). Then sign a vet as a fallback (hopefully he has value at the deadline). Then if that is a total disaster acquire another short term vet. They are always available.

Sanheim
York
Walker
Risto
Zamula
Attard

Andrae has zero shot to make the team IMO. I personally do not think he will be an NHL regular,

I have no idea why you think that. Andrae is already better than Zamula by a mile and has a significantly better chance of being an NHL regular than him, Attard, Ginning, and anyone else the Flyers have in their system. Behind York, he was their best defense prospect and he remains that even with the addition of Grans.

is being better than Zamula something to really hang your hat on? Zamula is at the point they need to see what they have, either a keeper or cut bait. Same with Attard to an extent.

We shall how Andrae progresses in LHV.

The Seeler hate is not unexpected. Common practice around here. Whoever the 6th/7th defenseman is is always the target for criticism of the management/coaching staff for not wanting whatever prospect is the prospect du juor to play. Not saying Seeler is great or even good or that I disagree with that in this case, but a common thread is "Player X who isn't an organizational prospect and he sucks and is blocking Player Y who is an organizational prospect." Sometimes its warranted, other times it isn't.

Players aren't blocked unless it's by a top 6 player with a big contract, and then they're blocked only in the sense they play on the 3rd line and if they get red hot, the HC finds ways of getting them more time.

When fans talk about players being blocked, they mean they'd rather see a prospect struggle and maybe regress than watch a mediocre veteran.

The entire point is, as a rebuilding...

Playing Zamula to see if he can hang + return on Seeler

Is WAY BETTER than

Waiving Zamula and see him become something elsewhere + keeping Seeler

Reminder, Seeler could get hurt, return to being unwanted like 2 years ago, etc... if someone wants him, trade him and move on knowing you got something for nothing.

Edit: Someone is lying again....

The bolded assumes a perfectly fair and unbiased evaluation process. The Flyers do not have any such thing. Seeler made the roster initially because Tortorella was thrilled about him fighting. Was it Attard who also survived a round of preseason cuts because of a fight? I think that was while Deslauriers sat around on the ice doing nothing, because "protection" isn't real but the team thinks it is. The team gives more of a shit about worthless fights than it does actual quality of play and impact. One of the many, many things this team gets wrong and contributes to them sucking always.

I doubt they're going to waive Zamula.
They'll carry 7 or 8 D-men to start the season, and go from there.

Torts likes Zamula, so he'd try to find a spot for him, both Zamula and Seeler have played on the right side, and while they'd like to move York back to the left side, that might wait until Grans or some other RHD prospect they draft/obtain in trade is ready for full-time duty.

They don't need to rush prospects, odds are both Seeler and Walker would be traded at the TDL, giving prospects a 20 game tryout to sell themselves as starters the next season.

The whole point of rebuilding is you can be patient, you don't have to force feed prospects.

Nah. Their whole mindset is opposition to youth, especially youth who fit the "skillboi archetype rather than the "Reliable Canadian Farmboy" archetype.

If Tortorella liked him so much he would have played. There was ample opportunity all year.

Here is a hot take for ya all , I would take Seeler at his price tag over TDA at his price tag any day of the week . TDA is the D man I want off this team the most and that's including Provo

Well, I agree, but not out of blind hate, but simply b/c he got a fair chance, blew it, and has no role.

York should be PP1 QB, Walker 1RHD while the kids grow up (unless they land a top RHD prospect in a trade, even a draft pick should stay in the CHL/other league for a year). Sanheim - Risto is set, so Attard/Grans should have first dibs on 3RHD.

But I'm not paying assets to dump TDA, retain salary, take a bad contract, but no assets, better to just buy him out.
