When have they hunted for size with Flahr running the draft?
All the big guys they drafted were skilled other than McDonald in the 6th rd.
The bigger problem has been too many big skilled players who were "soft" (Voracek, JVR, Hayes).

My problem with Girard is just how good is he, it's not that he's small, but can he play defense? He's good but not great on offense. Sanheim level.
In his favor, he was 2nd on the AVs in blocked shots.
But he was -10 in the regular season, -4 in the PO, now +/- is a limited stat, but it's hard to be minus on the team like the AVs!
And his xGFrel the last two years reflects this, especially the PO, -9.16, -9.17.
Girard will be 25 on a 4x5 contract. LH shot.
Hard pass. Put him on the Flyers and I'll bet his game falls apart.

I don't know what the front office would accept, but we need draft picks more than anything. We can still afford to take some cap dumps. I would drive Hayes and Laughton there for you, but I would make Hayes ride in the trunk.
nah…front hood ornament…a snarling dog

This week…benson and Heidt; talk about snarling dogs, ok yipping puppies

You didn't see Lindros and LeClair together did you?

Although, for his play style I think his answer makes sense. LeClair already did what Knuble did....just a whole lot better. A prime Knuble would clean up a lot of Giroux and Voracek passes and wreak havoc in the crease.

Yeah that top line is probably the worst way to get max utility out of Knuble

How many times do you need to read size-obsessed quotes from Flahr. And let's not pretend Fletcher had no agency. Fletcher picking players doesn't mean Flahr didn't want them to go bigger.

If Flahr is pushing for regular size players and then spending all his time whining about their size instead of just pushing for his preferred size, then he's dumber than a cold bowl of fat.

And the alternative was? Clarke, Spence (and Byfield I'm sure) were off the table, Grans was their #6 Prospect and a RHD.
He's also a mobile, skilled D-man whose issue is less skill than consistency, which at 20 isn't the end of the world (at 23 yes).
Turcotte would probably have cost them the 2nd rd pick (maybe get a later round pick).
Grans is a better fit for the Flyers than Laferriere RW.

No mention of anything about him other than his height and weight. Checks out lol.

Something like 'Flyers add smooth-skating two-way defense prospect with size" would have been a much more educational headline.

Also, isn't "trade deal" a bit redundant?
grinder/mucker... thats the only thing they care about..

Laughton’s nickname is “Sarge”??

Also, I’d take anything for Hayes. More than a cap dump and a 7th is too generous
this is the type of bargain the Avs usually look for. Probably need retention on Hayes if he won't cost much so they can still add to the roster with other assets. I hope I'm wrong but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it happen, and I think Hayes would be decent for COL

Too funny reading this.

Not going after Girard....they want size
When have they drafted for size under Flahr
Pic of Grans trade with Flyers hilighting his height and weight
The alternative was?

it's like someone pissing on your face and you try and say it's just raining.

You think if they traded for Girard, they wouldn't put, "we just obtained 5'9 170 lb D-man Girard . . . " It's a simple description. People here are weird.

All the big players Flahr drafted were skill players, Foerster, Gauthier, Attard, Kaplan, other than 6th rd pick McDonald.
I think we can all agree that big skill players, skill held equal, are a better bet than small skill players.
Tippett can skate and shoot, would he be a better player if he was 5'9 180 and was the same skater and shooter?

Now if you want to claim that Holmgren and Hextall were obsessed with size, well, Morin, Bunnaman, Ratcliffe, Ginning, St Ivany et al would agree with you.
Some posters here are obsessed with the past. "Six years ago they drafted . . ."
But those days are long gone.

Briere is the GM, last time I checked he was listed at 5'9 174, think he's obsessed with size?
Torts' favorite players over the years included St. Louis and Atkinson, and one of his favorite Flyers is TK and he put York on the 1st pair. Think he's obsessed with size?

You actually have zero idea at all which players Flahr wanted.

A players own proportions are irrelevant. Come on.

Probably not. But we have plenty of evidence that you are.
