Avalanche Film Room Series: Nikolai Kovalenko Plays With No Fear
Welcome to part one of a three part film room series focusing on Colorado Avalanche prospect Nikolai Kovalenko. The series will drop over the next week, with 40+ clips of Kovalenko (#51) and his game over in the KHL. Part two will focus on his work ethic, intelligence, and motor, while part...coloradohockeynow.com
Hopefully but what makes you say that ?I’d bet a lot of money he’s playing playoff games for the Avs next year.
It is pretty simple... his contract will be up in March/April over there, the Avs will sign him to an ELC, Kovalenko will want to burn a year, and Avs will try him out with the top club like they normally do with these late signings. Whether or not he sticks is a different sort of question. There is some positive here, but people just looking at the stats and a few highlights are going to be sorely disappointed when he comes over.Hopefully but what makes you say that ?
Don’t spoil the final part, damnit!do with these late signings. Whether or not he sticks is a different sort of question. There is some positive here, but people just looking at the stats and a few highlights are going to be sorely disappointed when he comes over.
I thought his contract went a year after this coming one ?It is pretty simple... his contract will be up in March/April over there, the Avs will sign him to an ELC, Kovalenko will want to burn a year, and Avs will try him out with the top club like they normally do with these late signings. I've been wrong plenty before... and I hope I am here too. To me his highest of high ceilings is Lehky... and frankly I'd be thrilled with that. The likely to me is a guy that isn't skilled enough for the top 6, but puts in a real solid effort and bounces around the 3rd and 4th lines never cresting more than that. Also a guy that gets blown up once every 4/5 games that some of the time leads to major injury (his tendency to skate with his head down with the puck and cross over the middle is deadly in the NHL game).Don’t spoil the final part, damnit!
Fwiw, I think he does plenty enough well to find a role. People expecting Kaprizov (which, sadly, some expect) are going to be very disappointed.
It ends in 2024 when his KHL season is over. He'll come over after that and he'll play with the Avs directly. All parties know that will be required.I thought his contract went a year after this coming one ?
Ok I can see him coming and hopefully so.

Last I saw was Baugh’s tweet about him signing that PTO for Eagles rest of year and something like, “contract talks for after this year are ongoing”.Did the Stienburg signing actually ever happen or are we waiting for July 1?
My guess is they are waiting until July 1 for some technicality on a detail, but I just hadn't heard since.Last I saw was Baugh’s tweet about him signing that PTO for Eagles rest of year and something like, “contract talks for after this year are ongoing”.

They'll use him to soften the backside of the JTC extension news. They'll announce it during the height of Free Agent Frenzy, getting us initially excited to see "Avs sign..." then annoyed to find out it's just Steinburg

And no outrageous motor vehicle accidents, meteors falling to Earth, or Ukrainian drones taking out the Kremlin. Two videos from Russia and neither was dash cam footage?
How is his contract going to be up in April when KHL contracts run to May first? Avs aren’t a pay to free the Russians org either. It is pretty simple... his contract will be up in March/April over there, the Avs will sign him to an ELC, Kovalenko will want to burn a year, and Avs will try him out with the top club like they normally do with these late signings. KHL guys traditionally have been allowed over once the season ends. Geopolitically that could always change and they could get strict on it and hold May 1 since there is no transfer agreement. How is his contract going to be up in April when KHL contracts run to May first?
