The "accept a trade to Detroit, Ottawa or Columbus or else we waive you" threat doesn't really work when the top two teams in waiver priority are Chicago and Nashville. I'm sure Trouba would much rather live/play in one of those cities than the teams rumored to have offers on the table.

I think a lot depends on his wife's residency situation. It's why he said he wouldn't report if he was put on waivers last year.

California for medical field would be good. If the smoke is around Anaheim, just hope he doesn't injure one of our guys.

That news sucks. That was a good move by the Ducks, but now we have two defencemen to look out when facing them. That's why I really wanted Trouba here, we need a player like that to keep other teams honest. Also would have been a good partner for our upcoming LD prospects.

We dodged one bullet, at least.

The problem is that players like Trouba have no business being permitted on an ice hockey rink.

Guessing Trouba was allowed to pick which team out of the ones that offered. If Grier didn't want to beat that it's because he knows Trouba and doesn't want him in the locker room/doesn't think he'd add much value to the team. I would've liked to have him on the team, I think, if only to avoid him injuring our guys, but it does all sound kind of too messy for a locker room full of children.

Those teams don't necessarily have rhe cap space to claim.

Bubble wrap Mack and Smith on April 1st. Not worth it lol
I didn't even realize that we already played Anaheim three times and only have one game remaining. Glad to see it.

If you want to win a cup, you gotta learn how to dodge an elbow.
Bold of you to assume Trouba is ever going to play in the playoffs ever again.

There are other players with flying elbows. I bet he gets moved for a 2nd+ at next year's deadline. Having Trouba as your 6th d-man and designated headhunter is exactly what playoff teams are looking for.

Beyond the projected futures next deadline, I'd have liked Grier to beat that (provided Trouba was amenable) for three reasons 1) No more Rutta 2) keeps Trouba from targeting our young guns 3) He's a good guy to partner with Muk/Dickinson on a 2nd pair, pushing Ferraro-Lilly to third pair.

I wouldn't have hated if we'd done it, but I don't really feel like we missed out.

Grier probably likes Ceci / Liljegren enough as a RD stopgap to not take a significant cap hit in Trouba or an identical player to Lil in Fabbro. I imagine this summer he might try and go big game hunting for a higher end defenseman and is happy to just chill for now. I’m guessing Rutta or Ceci are gone by the deadline and Muhk will get time with the club to see if he can win a spot and then they can evaluate.

This didn’t totally seem like a Grier move. I think he really dislikes those very big contracts for players who, let’s be honest, aren’t worth that money.

Seems like the Sharks only play would've been to claim off waivers since it didn't seem like they were in on the trade side of things at any point during the Trouba drama now or in the offseason. I can see why it may be a good deal for the Ducks and why it may be a good deal for all the Ducks' competitors. Trouba seems like the type that is going to make it harder for your team to win games but has trade value around the league. It's a decent bet to make for an extra and a 4th when you probably think that you're not going to get him through waivers.

The more I think about it this a terrible trade for a team like the Rangers with alleged playoff aspirations. Their second pairing is now Lindgren-Schneider which might be worse than Ferraro-Liljegren.

Shesterkin already needed to stand on his head every night to give that team a chance and they ship out one of their 3 defenders who can reliably log 20+ minutes a night for nothing in return?

I understand they needed to clear cap space but it's December 6th. What are they spending that money on?
